About the sudden lack of Inktober and other posts, this is why!

Our state got hit with a high-wind strom (80mph gusts) that roared like a freight train and had good sized maples waving like grass; we could hear trees creaking and snapping over the wind all night.  It also had the not-so-robust trees falling all over the state. Over 47,000 homes without power. In other news, our formerly skittish rescue cat could not have cared less and just crashed on our bed with us as we tried hard to sleep.

Our house survived (though my spouse's car may be a total loss due to a branch from a 40' pine decided to say "Hi" that night and the photo is from Monday morning of the edge of our property.  On the plus side, a few good-sized maples came down so, I'll be having a fair amount of firewood for next winter.

Our local utility's crews have been working hard and most homes now have power, including ours. Kudos to folks who do hard and dangerous work to keep us warm and comfortable. Though, as I pulled home today to see our kitchen light now on, an NPR bit about Puerto Rico came on and the homecoming was bittersweet.

Hope you are all safe and happy this fall and after!
