Lawful and pious as he is, Maxim has a bad habit of rejecting rewards for his good deeds. Money is the root of all evil after all. So he needs to pay for things in...other ways. This is pretty normal, honestly, and he doesn't mind it one bit. He'll give you head with a smile, look you in the eye, and ask if you're enjoying yourself. 

Just don't get too rough without asking first. He will actually break your bones.
