The amount of context behind this is vast, and I'm in a sharing mood.

"Autonomous Ship Companions" or Ship AI are common in the future for facilitating space travel. Tier 3 are the cheapest and most common, especially among solo flyers like Normla. On a modern ship they rarely need to use a physical body as most systems are automatically controlled, and maintenance staff / the ship's owner can handle the rest. Tier 3 AI do not have emotions per-say, but are permitted a certain amount of processing power toward 'self-reflection' to better understand their current environment and the people around them. They don't necessarily 'feel' emotion the way higher tier AI do, though they do understand it on a literal level and express it in a very limited capacity.

That said, this is Orchid, Normla's Tier-3 ship companion and she hates him to death, as much as her programming allows, anyway. First off, this is obviously not a normal maintenance body. Fancying himself a tinkerer, Normla repurposed the empty shell of a Soro he bought off the internet. (Soro are the robotic warrior dinosaur race with big titties. That's a different story though.)

This is impractical as all hell for obvious reasons, and doubly annoying when he interrupts her duties to fuck her in the mouth. Triply annoying when he sabotages small things on the ship which forces her to occupy her maintenance body to fix them, whereupon he can do all sorts of inappropriate things to her while she's on the job. What makes this worse is that there are an uncountable number of Tier-4 AI available SPECIFICALLY MADE for putting into sex robots, SEVERAL of which Normla himself already has, but he chooses to mess with Orchid specifically because he enjoys the pushback she provides. He COULD at any point just say, 'have sex with me.' After all, he literally owns her, but he loves the cat and mouse game they play. This is of course, not reciprocated.

Normla, being on the cold side, just calls her by her serial number, 'you,' or 'AI. Bastian gave her the name 'Orchid,' which she likes. And he put the label on because he wants to make her feel better and validated. She will frequently occupy her body specifically to protect him from the alien psychopath known as Normla. Being a warrior race, the a Soro's body made for combat, so while she's ill-suited to her actual job, she's more than capable of physically protecting one tiny panda from all the universe has to offer. That and she occasionally tends to his 'physical and mental well-being.' Space travel is long and stressful, after all.
