"What's your name, kid? You can call me Chris," the man said, handing Kevin a glass of water.

"Thanks," Kevin took a big gulp and said, "I'm Yao.'"

Chris couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at that. Having read the document, he knew the boy was hiding his identity. He couldn't help but nod his head in approval of his caution.

"Well, you're not in a good shape, kid. Here's something for the fever and some antibiotics and painkillers for the wound," Chris said, taking some pills from the beside table and handed them to him.

Kevin didn't take the medicine and just stared at the man.

Knowing that the boy didn't trust him, Chris gave him an understanding look and gave it some time.

"Well, I'll get you something to eat," He said, walking out of the room. "I'll be downstairs if you need any help."

Kevin looked at the bunch of pills in his palm and sighed. He knew he was in terrible shape, but what his body needed was not pills but energy. He threw off the blanket covering his body and slowly moved closed to the window.

The warm sunlight slowly relieved his fatigue and provided his body with the needed energy to recover. Kevin felt the pain in his arm slowly receding, his fever disappeared and his pale face slowly recovered its colour.

"I need to recover quickly and become stronger. Can't hide here forever. They will find me eventually."

Kevin frowned when he saw his remaining lifespan.

"Just 22 days? Last time I checked, it was 82 days," Kevin muttered in puzzlement.

Even if he got injured and sick, it shouldn't reduce his lifespan by so much.

"What the hell kind of cancer did they put in my body?" Kevin's face couldn't help but turn unpleasant.

He pulled out the documents from his pocket and read through them carefully, trying to find any useful information.

It wasn't long before he came across unsettling information in the experiment report.

They had cultivated various types of cancer cells using his body tissues, then transplanted them into his body. The goal had been to cultivate a kind of cancer that mutates and gains his sunlight-absorbing mutant ability.

Basically, a super cancer that grows stronger with every ray of sunlight.

"Fuck!" Kevin was furious at the moment. Initially, he had thought that as his body grows stronger, it will get rid of cancer on its own. But now, it was clear that as his body grew stronger, the cancer will grow stronger too.

Right now, he wished he could storm back into the base and burn it to the ground. He wanted them to experience the despair that he was feeling. He'd be stupid to even think about going there in his current condition.

"No, I can't give up!" He said, staring resolutely at the panel. Looking at this unbelievable thing, he couldn't lose hope. As long as he continues to improve, he would eventually become strong enough to beat this stupid cancer, he was sure of it.

With that in mind, he invested all his energy points into increasing imitation progress.

The imitation progress went from 34% to 39%!

A pleasing notification sounded in his ears.

[Ability: Divine Finger (Unlocked)]

"The hell is this?"

Kevin couldn't help but follow his instincts. He raised his right hand and pointed forward.

His fingers had pointed at the glass of water on the bedside table. In an instant, the space in front of him shattered like a mirror.

[Divine Finger Experience +1]

[Ability: Divine Finger (1/100) Level 1]

The glass of water shattered, and the glass shards rained towards the wall in front of him.

"Woah..." Looking at the sharp shards embedded in the wall, Kevin felt a little uneasy.

Not only did the ability shatter space, but it also had a tremendous force behind it.

The immense power of the Divine Finger shocked him. He had a feeling if this ability hit someone in the chest; it would shatter the sternum and send him flying?

"And this is just Level 1..."

Although the shattered space was only the size of a baby's fist, the power behind it was tremendous for a human, considering how fragile they are.

"This is would be the perfect ability to use if someone gets too close."

Spacial Shift for evading attacks, Rebound Shield for blocking attacks, Dark Particles for long-range the long-range attacks and now Divine Finger to prevent close encounters. Kevin felt a lot safer, as he no longer had any obvious shortcomings.

While Kevin was experiencing a newfound feeling of security, the door suddenly burst open and Chris rushed into the room.

"What happened?"

Opening the door, Chris first looked at the young man to make sure he was okay. Then, his eyes quickly scanned the surroundings, looking for anything unusual.

He was stunned, looking at a bunch of glass shards stuck in the wall!

"How did you do this, kid?" he asked in astonishment.

"Cough..." Kevin awkwardly coughed and forced out an explanation.

"I lost control of my anger... thought of some unpleasant things and ended up smashing the glass on the wall..."

"I'm really sorry about this. I'll clean it up later."

"Is that so?" Chris didn't believe a word of that. The glass shards embedded in the wall didn't look like normal.

It would take a lot of strength for something like this, and even then, chances are that the glass would shatter against the wall and not embed into it.

Glancing at the young man's thin arms, he just nodded and said, "Now that you have recovered, you can come down for breakfast."

Heading downstairs, he picked up his tabled and logged into the surveillance app. He couldn't help but hesitate for a moment.

As a mutant living in this godforsaken world, he had installed surveillance cameras both outside and inside his house for safety and to prevent unexpected situations.

But he never imagined that one day he would use it to spy on a kid, but then remembering that the kid was a mutant as well and capable of escaping a high security prison, he didn't hesitate anymore.

He paused the recording and rewinded it to the moment he had left the room and pressed play.
