My fellow Patreon dweebs,

I’m so sorry this reaction is running a little later than usual. BUT I come bearing good news! I think I fixed the drift/syncing issue! Please let me know how this reaction goes for you but I toggled around with my settings today and by George I think I’ve got it!

I also included more episode clips in this one to help us stay in sync (Sorry David and Elisa, majority won out on this one lol). Please let me know if it’s too many or not enough or just right!

I loved this episode definitely top 5 funniest Rick and Morty episodes Also I think you fixed the syncing issue. It worked for me. thank you for that :)

The episode's basic premise was pitched by Writer Anne Lane as an exploration of self-love and avoidance. Dan Harmon noted that there is a question of Beth being a woman who is allowed to like herself, which this episode addresses with her literally falling for herself. Avoidance manifests in Morty and Summer's attempts to avoid thinking about the affair (until they are literally forced to listen to it from another room), and Beth's own reluctance to address it with her family. A major theme in this episode is consequences. Beth and Space Beth engage in the affair without thinking about the consequences of their family finding out, leading Rick to warn them that lying about it will only make things worse. He even goes so far as to criticize them for trying to make the issue go away by wiping their own memories. In both cases, Beth criticizes him for being hypocritical, as he is guilty of the same actions, to which he admits. Lane has confirmed that Beth's actions in this episode are an intentional parallel to Rick, in her trying to explore the greater universe after becoming bored with her home life

Great Job! I was able to watch all the way through without adjusting a single thing so at this point it doesn't matter how many clips because I don't have to fiddle with it! Not gonna lie when space Beth and normal Beth started complimenting each other in season like, what, 4 or 5 you could say that my brain kinda wrote this episode as impromptu fanfic LOL. I never thought it would happen tho...and I for sure didn't see Jerry being in the mix with some sort of cuck fetish 😁 It's so funny how many crazy and fucked up things Morty and Summer have done throughout the seasons but the trauma in this episode has got to be up there for them for sure 🤣. Ok now to the question if it's cheating...everyone is gonna have their own spin on this depending on what they believe but personally I'd say at this point it's cheating because while they have the same memories up until the split they're essentially independent people. MAAAYBE if they did it right when the split happened a case could be made that it would be more ok but eh not really like just because their differences are smaller at that point they still have their own consciousness. I mean ask yourself this would you consider it cheating if the same thing happened with someone who shares your exact memories and feelings to a certain point but looks completely different like if space Beth had gone out and gotten some top notch alien plastic surgery. But ultimately anyone in a partnership has to define for themselves what they consider cheating. So would I consider it cheating technically, absolutely unless consent is given beforehand...would I mind if Beth would mess around with space Beth if she were my wife...absolutely not lol...eherm 😳🤣

I never seen you turn so red before hehe. Thats how you know the episode is hilarious! I'm honestly glad Rick is portal gunless! I love when the whole family is involved!

I really shouldn’t be surprised at this point, none of us should with this show, but this really got me dude what the hell😂 this was ridiculous!!🤣😭😂 I do think there’s definitely something of substance to take away from this about Beth as a person. Up until the end of season 4 I feel like Beth still really needed ricks approval and was still working through her fears of him leaving again. I think it was only when space Beth showed up that something changed for her. It’s not like she’s cold or distant with Rick now, but I think space Beth’s existence showed her just how detached Rick is at this point, severing that attachment she couldn’t really seem to shake. She’s much more present and family oriented, and seems a lot happier for the most part. Maybe earth Beth idolises this rebellious version of herself and loves her for freeing her from that emotional cage, kind of like she’s in love with what she wishes she was? Thinking back to this episode though this relationship really seemed to be instigated by space Beth, so maybe they’re both longing for what the other version has? That’s how I took it anyway. That is of course if your theory at the end there isn’t true about the wine, but it makes a hell of a lot of sense! Rick leaves all kinds of ridiculous shit lying around, so wine that makes you fall in love with whoever ya share it with, seems very likely😂 - side note - did I see a little morty in one of those bottles there at the end?!?!

I gotta say as crazy as this episode was, I was laughing so hard all the way through! Some of the line readings, especially from Jerry about his “weird little dick” omg🤣💀 I loved all the “realistic” games, especially the street fighter type one where you have to live out your normal day and hope you bump into one another😭😂 and OMG I totally thought of interstellar at that part too!! One of my all time favs✨ Another part that cracked me up was at the dinner table when they’re all listening to whatever the hell is going on upstairs, morty’s plate just has a mountain of salt on top like he’s just been stuck in motion pouring it for so long!🤣 Idk that little detail just got me so good lol. Honestly for a sec there I thought your question was gonna be “would you ever date a clone of yourself?”😂😂 In answer to your question though yeah, I do think it’s cheating for sure. I think the situation in the show is a prime example of how different the same person can be when put on two different paths! I don’t think you get a pass because you look alike. I’m sure in theory it would be really easy to connect with yourself and form a relationship, but it’s definitely still cheating in my book! Cheating to me simply is a breach of trust between two people, trust that really should be the foundation of the relationship. So wether it’s a clone of yourself or anyone really, you have to question the sincerity of the cheater I think. It’s a red flag for sure!😂 Thank you for another great one mate, your reaction to this insanity was priceless and i had so much fun with this one. Have a lovely rest of your week friend:D

P.s. I have been absolutely jamming ouuuut this week to Just Like Heaven by The Cure and She Moves in Her Own Way by The Kooks if you needed any song recs✨

I am going to say that it is 100% cheating and not some form of alternative masturb8ing if it's with your clone. Of course, it's simply my opinion, but for me it's SO much more about the expression of an emotional bond and not just a physical act. I feel like redirecting those feelings towards anyone else, no matter how similar to you they might be, breaks that bond. And you never really get it completely back no matter how much you repair the damage. Then again, that could just be the old fashioned Kentucky farmboy romantic in me. Plus, the second they stopped having the EXACT same experiences they became two different people who share the same DNA. A large portion of who we are is defined by environmental influence. For example, in the season opener Space Beth is highly proficient at killing aliens, while Earth Beth struggled to put just one alien out of its misery (which in itself is an anomaly, because she has already proven to be excellent at killing). At this point, they're are closer to identical twins than the same person, so essentially Beth had sex with her twin sister; which in itself is fine with me, but...again, that may just be the Kentucky farmboy in me talking -Lol Here's a question: how did Jerry get back to Jerryboree by himself? I'm pretty sure it's in a separate reality than the rest and there currently isn't any portal technology to get him there. If, by some chance, the Jerryboree does happen to exist in their universe how would he still get there? It's doubtful that Rick would just let him borrow his ship and he's incapable of bypassing all of Rick's security protocols to simply steal it. Which also makes me wonder how any of the other Jerrys would be there, unless they are all forgotten Jerrys. And if they are, how many of those Jerry's Ricks were killed at The Citadel? Or maybe this isn't even the real Jerry, but actually Evil Morty's Jerry planted during the reality shifts in the season opener. After all, they did show two Jerrys in the house near the end, even though the other one should have gone back to his reality during the shift. Who's to say that wasn't a misdirect to hide a third? The mind reels... Speaking of multiple Jerry's, since Rick and Jerry seem to be getting drunk together and doing irresponsible things (a la the pillbug protocol and Rick's tattoo), what if one of those nights after Jerry first met Space Beth he asked Rick to make a clone of him? And it turns out that he is out there kicking space ass unbeknownst to even sober Rick and Jerry. Eventually, he becomes so notorious that he ends up being Space Beth's arch-nemesis! Now, while Beth and Jerry are home keeping their marriage together, the space versions of Beth and Jerry spend every waking moment trying to destroy each other. I feel like I kind of need that to happen now -Lol

Jordan

My friend if your theory about a badass clone Jerry out there isn’t true then you should be writing this damn show! I wanna see that play out now so bad, holy SHIT that would be so cool!!

Anonymous

Right?! I feel like it needs to happen now! I was just writing a quick sentence about Jerry going to the Jerryboree, but then my head just kept going from one thought to the next until I said, "I should just stop talking now", otherwise I'd probably still be writing! Lol

alyciadweeb

Yessss! Oh my gosh I'm so happy to hear the episode synced okay for you :D And I love that you loved this episode so much! I don't know that it was one of my personal favorites but I respect the boundaries the writers pushed and found the episode to be very smart and very metaphorical. Is there a particular reason this one was a favorite for you??

alyciadweeb

Thank you so much for sharing all this! This deep-dive insight into the episode makes me like it even more. The writers on this show are just too dang good. Every episode is multi-layered and metaphorical in some way or another. This season feels slightly darker to me- not quite as dark as season 3 (at least not yet lol) but definitely darker than say season 2

alyciadweeb

I'm so happy to hear the episode synced up for you guys this time :D At last the cruse is broken lol! And that is genuinely the most valid argument for it being cheating that I've heard. I never thought about it that way but you're absolutely right. They've each lived out such different lives since the split. They may have started as the exact same person but their unique experiences made them different.

alyciadweeb

And I feel the same way about Rick's broken portal gun! This season feels very family- oriented (no pun intended lol) and I'm all here for it!

alyciadweeb

Wowowow I really love your analysis of this episode. I think family Beth ABSOLUTELY looks up to space Beth and it makes total sense that seeing her live so independently inspired fam Beth to do the same. AND OMG YES I noticed the tiny Morty bottle too when I was editing! God only knows..... (to which Rick would say, "*Burp* Right... Only *I* know) 🤣

alyciadweeb

I missed the part where Morty had a pile of salt on his plate LOL I'll have to look for that next time. Good catch! And I agree with your definition of cheating 100%. Anything that breaches trust is a no-go.

alyciadweeb

I love both of those songs/bands! And I always think of you when 'Charlie Brown' pops up in my queue :)

alyciadweeb

Well I'm an old-fashioned West Virginia romantic so I absolutely agree with your opinion on it being cheating! All of you guys had such good points about why it would be and I thought it was sooo interesting to hear everyone's thoughts, so thanks for sharing :)

alyciadweeb

AND I ALSO ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH JORDAN THAT THIS EVIL JERRY PLOT NEEDS TO BE A THING. Oh my god that would be so good.

Jordan

There’s something about Just like Heaven for me, that beautiful rifffff, it just breaks my heart and fills me with nostalgia😭 really, really love that one!✨ Yeah, a part of me did think those choices were a bit on the nose for your immaculate music taste mate lol. Also I love that, that’s so cool✨ and JINX!! anytime I hear Resonance by Home orrr like any Atta boy song I’m the same way:)

Dang. I had actually already forgotten about it until I read this, now the idea is stuck in my head again! lol
