the other person who traveled with belos, if you remember chapter 10, where we meet vee, they mention that two brothers mysteriously disappeared, making a deal with a witch, and those two brothers are philip and "hunter" who is believed to have the real name CALEB, name we hear in episode 13 where flabjack suggests hunter to use that name when he meets willow

And in this Episode we meet to “the collector” too

DarkAshtar

You're in for a doozy next week too lol

this was such a wild ride and I mean really wiiiiild! so intense and very informative. it is just so well done that even though we knew who belos was from previous episodes and hunter was made (was teased on eclipse lake) / a grimwalker, the episode still blew my mind. how they reveal and confirmed those things was just hmmmm *chefs kiss*

Anonymous

this was also the first I have seen in an animated show that tells a whole other story using the background while also telling whats the main plot of the episode. this was all sooo well dooone and I love it soo much. if you want to see the whole picture or the pictures in the background, there's this reddit that got all of them, here's the link if you want to https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOwlHouse/comments/ua2i0m/all_the_paintings_from_hollow_mind/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

YOU GUYS!!!!!! https://youtu.be/AJzpJh9_KFg

Jenny D

We met the Collector in 2x08, in the Owl Beast’s memory during Eda’s part of the episode!

Jenny D

And the week after that, and the week after that, etc

Jenny D

Phew. Well after this heavy of an episode we’ll surely get a break next week, right?

Jenny D

Yes! I’ve seen some comments from people who were annoyed by the Philip is Belos reveal this episode since we basically got that at the end of 2x12, but I argued with them that the point of doing this reveal wasn’t really to shock the audience, it was so we could experience Luz’s reaction to learning the truth; same with Hunter’s reaction to learning he’s a grimwalker. Luz didn’t see Philip consume the palisman at the end of 2x12, and Hunter didn’t see the grimwalker pages in 2x09, so of course they still had to find out this information, and it wouldn’t make sense to do it off screen. After the background story playing out in the pictures, watching those two learn all of this information was my favorite thing about this episode! Luz watching those memories back was such a powerful scene!

Anonymous

right?! it was just soooo goooood. and yesss! thats true, it was hunter and luz's pov. it was months since this episode aired but that scene still gave me chills.

“HOLY $&@!” INDEED MATE, wow this one was so insaneeee!!!🤯😭😅 Okay I just have to say right off the bat that Hunter and Flapjack are the cuuuuutest and if anything happens to either of them I will not be happy!!😂🥺 From that picture he accidentally sent Luz a few episodes ago, to his not so sneaky “i love u” down the walky-talky this episode, he just loves his little palisman so much and it warms my heart every single time😍 The design of Belos’ mindscape was SO amazing! Beginning in these very pristine corridors with all of the so called “memories” actually just being the coven’s triumphs over wild magic, probably just the stuff he chooses tells his people. Then as they go deeper into his subconscious we get to see some of the real harsh truths of Belos’ reign, the countless lies and manipulation tactics he’s used to get his way over the years. Not at all surprising but I am really shocked we’ve been given this unique window into the villains past, very happy about it however because WHAT AN INSANE TURN OF EVENTS! and what a great way to not only reveal to Luz but to solidify for us the audience that Belos is Phillip!!! SO MANY CHILLS THIS SHOW IS TOO FRICKIN GOOD✨ There were so many paintings of children (guessing Phillip and our mystery person) later in the episode but I wasn’t really able to get a good look, I can imagine there’s so much more to delve into here in terms of Belos’ origins and I’m not even gonna pretend like I know how to figure it all out, so I’m just excited to read all the comments of people who know what they’re talking about!😂 AND WAS THAT RAINE, DARIUS AND EBERWOLF WORKING TOGETHER?? I’m almost 100% about Darius and Eberwolf, I can’t say for sure that’s Raine but with the flute magic and how last episode ended it would make a lot of sense! That would be so great to see Darius break away from belos and come join the side of wild magic because what a fantastic character he is, endlessly sassy and it never fails to crack me up lol! Also there was just something particularly hilarious to me this episode about going from these super intense moments in Belos’ mind with almost no levity, to then just cut back to Hooty like in his sunglasses or something😂 the way they balance the darkness and the light in this show, especially now that it’s getting SO REAL every episode, honestly it’s such a joy to see so much effort put into a show, the way they reveal just the right amount of information but leave so many little clues along the way. I seriously can’t ask anymore of a show, that it be so endlessly engaging and exciting and always keeps you guessing about something! Okay I’m bordering on rambling now but yeah this episode was soooo great! I’m so happy and satisfied with this one, so much more crazy than I could’ve ever imagined! Lastly very subtle but there were hints in this episode that there’s maybe more layers to belos than we’ve necessarily seen yet. Do you think personally that there’s room for redemption with this character or are the ends not really justifying the means as far as what we’ve seen so far! For me it’s a no at the moment, there’s just not enough evidence that I’ve seen of his statements being true about wild magic, it seems to me he wants to restrict people from reaching their full potential, maybe in fear that they would surpass him in strength, not very redeemable I must say😂 anyways take it easy friend hope you’re having an awesome weekend

If not Raine and Eberwolf I don't know who else they could be, but there's no question the third figure was Darius. The third figure used abomination magic, and its cloak flew up showing enough clothing that matched how Darius dresses. I think it's interesting that when Hootie said the blonde kid was in trouble too, Darius reacted strongly.

Jordan

Right! and I didn’t realise until I saw Alycia’s YouTube reaction to last week’s episode that Raine receives their secret plans from Darius’ abomination magic, all but confirming that they’re in cahoots with a plan against the day of unity! Also I didn’t even notice that moment with Darius but yeah, I think he’s really grown a soft spot for the kid! I’d like to think now if Belos tried to add Hunter to his long list of Betrayals that Darius would actually have something to say about it! Good call mate!

O M G...PHILIP I KNEW IT *excited screech* I mean I totally expected it all along but to finally have it completely spelled out for us is another thing hehe. The witchhunter part was surprising but it makes sense now because the day of unity would rob all the witches of their powers but thus far I assumed he had just been willing to accept that everyone loses their powers as long as he reaches his goal but it never crossed my mind that that could actually BE his goal. Btw anyone get "Grandma room" vibes from the opening shot in the mindscape? Also total shot in the dark but what if the scary Belos in the mindscape is how he would actually look now had he not continuously used palismen to keep his body fueled, you know kind of like a Dorian Gray situation?! And him catching his scary self is him trying to sort of delete the memory he has of himself that this is actually what he sacrificed to get to where he is. Oh and holy crap has he been "cloning" his brother this whole time to create Hunter...I mean he said old friend but I believe in some episode they said two brothers were stranded there so who knows. Either way has he been cloning that person this whole time despite Hunter, or the "clones" we don't know he always called them Hunter I suppose, always betraying him he still tries over and over again. Is that what happened to his brother or friend? Belos felt like they betrayed him, or actually betrayed him and he's trying to create a future where the two can end up on the same side? Oh and yeah a REALLY cute moment was when Hunter told Flapjack he loves him...because despite being embarrassed he just HAD to say it anyways...so cute. 🐦 This episode was a lot there's probably a whole lot more that comes to mind once I digested it a little hehe.

I'm obsessed with the details of this show- particularly this season! I think this will be such a fun one to go back and rewatch and pick up on all the things I missed :D

alyciadweeb

Ooh I never really thought about it that way. We really were experiencing the reveal through Luz and Hunter's eyes. Hunter's reaction especially was just breaking my heart :'(

alyciadweeb

These photos are SO COOL. I overlooked all of them while watching the episode but what a treat for the more attentive fans to get to see all that detail! This episode is too good

alyciadweeb

OMG! Okay I would love to try and find the time to react to this so I'm not gonna watch it yet lol

This was the episode I had in mind when I mentioned you should pay really close attention to what's in the background.

alyciadweeb

Oh my gosh I knoooow! Him and Flapjack are just my favorite thing ever. I think FJ even gives Owlbert a run for his money in cuteness!
Hahaha Jordan me and you both my friend! That’s why I feel so lucky to have my patrons cause they always point out the stuff I miss! Idk if you saw but both Jenny and Jubiie commented a reddit link that zooms in on all the details in the pictures and HOLY CRAP IS IT WORTH A LOOK. The details the creators put into this show never ceases to amaze me. You can tell they really care about the story and their fans and I just love that. It was 10000% those three lol! I don’t think I put it in my full length reaction but I put an insert in my edited YouTube reaction of me face-palming and saying how brutally obvious it is that it’s those 3 😂 If you go back and watch it a second time you can totally tell it’s them. And I feel like they’ve made Darius too likable to have him end up as a true villain in the end. I think him, Raine and Eberwolf are devising a plan behind Belos’s back to try and prevent the Day of Unity from happening… and thank GOODNESS because we need all the help we can get at this point, clearly 😅 I feel like the ends justifying the means redemption is on a case-by-case basis for me, and I’m with you- Belos is just too far gone at this point lol!

alyciadweeb

Hahahaha Elisa I love the excited screech. You ABSOLUTELY called it. You’ve been banging these theories out this season- I’m very proud lol! But YES I never expected that his goal was to have everyone lose their powers! But knowing more about his Gravesfield/witch-hating background it makes perfect sense. I actually think you’re spot- on with Belos looking like that scary monster if he ever stopped drinking the palisman powers. I think that version of him reveals his addiction and sickness and the only way to to keep it at bay is to keep drinking. So spooky 😱 I am soooo curious to know what happened to his brother. And yeah I imagine Belos continually recreating Caleb/Hunter is his way of trying to create a version of his brother that goes along with his plans. Especially with that line, “It hurts every time he chooses to betray me” >:( Oh my gosh the Hunter/Flapjack moments are my FAVORITE! They are so, so cute together! 🥺
