A little easter egg I noticed while editing this episode:

Take a clooose look at the picture of Amity’s dad winning the tournament belt (in the scene where Luz and Amity are together on the couch). You can see a young Eda sitting in the background of the photo… and she’s with Raine 🥺 S’CUTE!

That scene where Alador goes to hug Amity and she turns it into a handshake had a lot of meaning. Things dont get settled in a minute - but small steps can be taken

This was suchhh a special episode omgg🥺 I had a feeling this was gonna be a great one as you mentioned you were excited for me to see it, but wowww😭🌟 I mean for starters Luz just absolutely broke me here. I just wanted to give her a hug the entire time!! I think all of us can relate to Luz here in one way or another, I know I always find anniversaries hard and my mind never takes it easy on me on those days. So I really felt for Luz here and found myself getting all worked up in that scene under the tree with Amity, the actor for Luz just played the hell out of that scene it was so well done and grounded, that mixed with the petals falling and the colour in that scene…. GORGEOUS*🥺 Almost goes without saying at this point but I’m gonna say it anywayyy THEY ARE THE BEST COUPLE EVER!!!😭 like *THE* benchmark for any relationship, no?✨ The level of understanding and (you put it best) maturity these kids have for each other and their relationship is so insane! The way Amity handled that was so awesome too, just listening and being present for someone in a time like that does so much, and its so great that kids get an ‘out of reality’ experience like this, that could maybe help to guide them through a similar situation that could arise in their real lives, show them how to properly honour someone’s feelings when things get serious. Like if that isn’t using your art for absolute good i don’t know what the heck is!✨🥺 I can only imagine just how rewarding this is to get to see such a beautiful and healthy relationship portrayed through an openly gay couple too! Such a step in the right direction for Disney and hopefully this is merely the beginning as far as fair representation goes in shows moving forward! Some other highlights of this episode were Luz and Kings hug right at the beginning, that made me very happy! Eda’s reaction to Edrick’s name had me dying that was easily the funniest line this episode! I loved Amity setting boundaries with her Dad! It was cool to see him come to terms with her very much being her own person, his ignorance towards her recent growth probably only made that a harder pill to swallow for him, as he definitely realised here just how much he didn’t know about her, very sad but it seems things are looking up for them now at least! And to echo your words Luz is becoming such a badass when it comes to her magic, like she is really working these glyph combos like a pro these days it’s so exciting to see😁 Great spot with the photo btw never would’ve noticed young Eda and Raine there on my own! Also OMG shoutout to your Undertale play through!! I absolutely love those videos and revisit them quite often actually as they’re super relaxing and a lot of fun to watch!✨ If you had to pick one drink (besides water because that’s boring😂) to have forever, obviously ignoring any negative health benefits said drink may come with😂 which would you choose? Mine would have to be apple juice or maybe Tea, I’d be lost without a hot bru every now and then so yeah probably tea! Okay I’m gonna go cry over lumity and this episode as a whole but I hope you’re having a lovely weekend friend and I can’t wait for the next one!:’)

OH..MY...GOD concealment stone Amity makes my heart flutter lol. She's usually super cute already but something about her in this episode hit all the right spots...from her outfit being a mix of violet, lilac and purple to the puffy shoulders on her dress to colormatching her earrings to her eye color it was perfection hehe excuse me for a moment while I go crush hard 🤭 But DAMN then they got me all teary-eyed for the rest of the episode from both happiness and sadness. But a crushy...weepy adorable episode was exactly what I needed today! 💖 Also DID YOU HEAR WHAT WARDEN WRATH SAID? New land not very inviting to magic users?! Uhh I smell dissent in the ranks will we see the uprising and combining forces of the coven heads with Luz and Co. like I predicted? Only like 6 more episodes. The pressure is on y'all! Ok now please excuse me while I go swoon over Amity some more lie on my bed do some fussy feet kicks in the air and then look for a wallpaper of Amity with that dress for today lol. I know I'm ridiculous but I don't care 😋

Sarah-Nicole Robles (Luz) did such a great job in portraying Luz's emotion when she and Amity is under their Grom Tree. That broke my heart and I literally teared up on that scene. That was the reason I love this episode so much, Luz's baggage, Amity's reaction, its just perfect. And Its like a Grom episode too. Amity's dress, the Grom Tree, Luz's face when flipping her Glyphs (its the same face when they were dancing at Grom).

I don’t think too many people guessed Amity dyed her hair purple because it’s abomination colored. Some people thought it was because Luz’s hoodie is kinda purple/her hair is also a bit purplish, others thought it was just because it was pretty far away from green. I hadn’t really thought too much about it, other than that I like the color she chose—but I do kind of miss the old hairstyle; for some reason the bangs make her forehead look bigger than the hair bump did. I think what threw me off about the abomination connection is that, while all of the abominations we’ve seen (aside from Professor Homunculus’s abomination) are purple, the color for the track is pink. Purple is the oracle track, even though the necklaces Odalia used to telepathically nag Amity her whole life were pink. Also Edric + King = future brothers-in-law! Yeah, Luz really just needs a good bedtime story and a nap! But who knows if she’ll have time for that. Seething seas and puppet strings He no longer dreams of kings As above rush

After watching practically all of the reactions to this episode and reading a bunch of comments on Reddit when it aired, I think I was one of very few people who guessed pretty early on that it was the anniversary of her dad’s death. Granted before this episode the only thing we knew about him was that Camila still has a family photo in the kitchen of the three of them. It wasn’t even a guarantee that it was him in the picture, but that was the most plausible scenario. I doubted someone would keep a picture on display that included their husband if he had abandoned them or if they were divorced. Plus there was the fact that Luz only ever talked about getting back to her mom. So that left the most likely conclusion to be that he had died. At first I thought maybe it was her mom’s birthday, but with how sad Luz was in the cold open and then again in the living room right before Amity showed up I figured it was probably an anniversary of a death. So while a lot of other reactors I watched were getting annoyed with Luz for lying to Amity again, and so soon after Follies, when I first watched it I was already pretty sure I knew why she was doing it. And like Luz said, it doesn’t excuse the lie she told about not touching the Abomiton, but I do think it’s totally understandable that she didn’t want to talk about why she was acting weird all day. Also I think the reactions I saw are a testament to the writing on this show, and how good they are at subverting tropes! Like I said, a lot of reactors were frustrated that there was another Luz lying to Amity plot, but then they all did a complete 180 when it was revealed why Luz did it. It was similar to a lot of reactions in Follies when Amity first picked up the phone, and even I was nervous they were gonna have Amity watch the video and jump to conclusions, but I should’ve known that these writers were better than that! So that was another reason I trusted them this episode. I blame the long hiatus for making me forget to trust them during Follies. And you’re definitely not the first person I’ve seen have theories about Luz’s dad! Prior to 2x05 and the start of the Belos is Philip theory, I saw some people speculate that the emperor was Luz’s dad. Before this episode aired I saw people guess that her dad was either a witch or a human trapped on the Boiling Isles. Even after this episode I’ve seen a couple comments that think her dad might secretly still be alive and trapped on the Isles, and I might have even entertained that theory if the show had enough time to do something like that.
