What were your thoughts on this episode? On this season overall??

I think season 2 is going to have some amazing episodes in store, and I'm so excited that the second half of season 2 is airing currently so I won't have to wait for more by the time I'm caught up 🤣😍

OMG I LOVE your shirt it's soooo adorable! 🤩 I gotta say as far as pacing goes this episode didn't live up to what the last episode set up imo, don't get me wrong it was a good episode and Eda and Luz' heart to heart was once again pretty emotional but compared to last week this episode was more of a fizzle than a bang. I feel like it was a mistake dramaturgically to play Liliths "Cursing Eda - Redemption" Flashback etc at the point that they did because it slowed things down. But I rewrote the episode for myself to make it better so all is cool 😁 All the pieces were there I just feel like they didn't deliver them in the optimal order. Anyways enough of that, I'm nitpicking on a high level it was still a good episode! Ok brainstorming time. What do you think of Emperor Belos? Is he actually a bad guy, or more precisely a villain? I mean he's doing questionable things but as far as "villains" go he's pretty chill and reasonable up to this point. I'm not saying I'm convinced he's not a villain but maybe he actually does know something or has some goal in mind that would arguably justify his methods. He didn't hurt Luz even though she cracked his mask, he didn't go after Eda and Lilith either. While we're at it, can he even leave the castle? Have we seen him outside his castle yet? Maybe he didn't pursue them because he can't? Either because maybe he can't leave the castle for some reason or because there's something wrong with his powers and he's not as strong as people think or like with Edas curse using his powers takes a toll on him somehow, I mean what was that green goo he poured into his mask that made his eyes light up? It seemed to restore him to some extend or whatever. I'm just thinking out loud here 😄 Oh also do you think he actually communicates with the titan or he just uses that as a pretense to justify his power/position? In almost any other character or show I'd be convinced that he's just making it up entirely but with him I honestly can't say I'm convinced one way or the other. From a writing perspective it would be way cooler if it turned out he actually IS communicating with the titan because in like 99% of all cases when someone in power claims to have all the answers they're straight up lying 😆 And mind you I'm not saying that if he is communicating with the titan that makes him a good guy but maybe he's being taken in by the titan and the titan is the actual villain? So many questions lol...anyways I'll stop here hehe. Really excited for season 2!

One of the things I really liked about the whole Lilith-Eda curse backstory they revealed here was the dawning realization on young Lilly's face when Eda forfeited their contest so Lilly could live the dream of being in the Emperor's Coven. You can tell that Lilith, being the by-the-book person she (usually) is, hadn't even considered that Eda might decide to ditch the entire Coven system and go wild! We know (from "The First Day" episode) that Eda wanted to study every magic, and we also know that the only legal way to study every sort of magic is to be in the Emperor's Coven. I can easily see how Lilith, being (as mentioned before) usually pretty big on the whole law and order stuff, wouldn't even have considered going wild as a potential option. Likewise it makes sense that Eda, with her down-with-the-rules! mentality, ultimately would choose to go wild rather than join the Emperor's Coven. What a pity that Eda didn't let her sister know that Eda was actually going to help Lilly achieve Lilly's life-long dream rather than snatch that dream out from under her! Gotta love it when communication issues wind up being a major crux in a problem. If, back in the day, on being informed there was exactly one opening available in the Emperor's Coven, Eda had told Lilly not to sweat it, that Eda would happily step aside and let her sister have the spot, then Lilith wouldn't have felt (once again) forced into a no-win situation, one where (almost) any option to achieve victory is on the table. Hardly a good thing, that willingness to cheat to win, but - again - Lilly's been influenced by Eda, and much of Eda's life can be summed up as lie, cheat, and steal to have a good time! So, no realistic options to beat Eda in a fair fight, knowing Eda almost never fights fair to begin with, and a single chance to grab her life's dream? Yeah, I can see Lilly taking the "dark side" choice and looking for a way to cheat to win. Thus the curse. What I find most telling about Lilly's choice is, judging by the number of scrolls present at the Night Market (and it's general reputation as a hub of dangerous magic) it seemed there were plenty of options for cursing someone ... I imagine plenty of them were quite potent. Even deadly! Heck, we've seen Eda casually eat an enemy of hers without batting an eye, and Eda gets killing curses sent to her as junk mail, so spells to murder your enemies ... and murdering your enemies ... would seem to be pretty common in the Boiling Isles. So clearly Lilith went hunting through the available stock of Night Market dirty tricks looking for something to incapacitate and weaken, rather than destroy, her sister. And the curse she found? Again, judging from what Lilly knew at the time, it was a "remove your enemy's power for twenty four hours" sort of curse, but a little fuzzy on the specifics of how it worked. From what we've seen of Eda, I would be surprised if Eda hadn't already done far worse than that to Lilly over the course of their childhood! Only the curse, in addition to being shockingly unnecessary due to Eda's surprise forfeiture ... well, it didn't work quite "as advertised." Not a day long inconvenience, but a life-long, and increasingly dire, struggle! I'm pretty sure that if Lilith had known the specifics of the Owl-Beast Curse, she would have found something else to use instead! Was cursing Eda a good thing? Not at all! Justifiable? Nope! Understandable? Absolutely! And deeply selfish in the way that everyone can, especially under stress, become deeply selfish. I can totally see how the dynamic established between Eda an Lilly, along with their night-and-day personality differences, would lead to this outcome. And it sheds considerable light on Lilith's actions since then. Driven by a sense of guilt at what she had done, Lilly's been working to make things right - to cure Eda of the curse. Lilith's own (considerable) magic is insufficient to this task, at best she could weaken the curse by sharing it. So Lilith rose in power in the Emperor's Coven, rising to the position of Coven Head, and I'm pretty sure that one of her driving forces was getting a hold of the means to cure Eda. Head of a Coven that uses all magics would be a position to let Lilly know what means were available. And what means did she find? Not the Healing Hat (Lilly mentioned that it wouldn't work), not any spell the Coven had access to, but Emperor Belos himself - strongest witch in the world, and able to commune with the fallen Titan itself (or so he claims) ... here's a man that could cure Eda. And he said he would, but only if Eda was brought into the Emperor's Coven. Only if brought under control. Thus Lilith's constant attempts to recruit Eda, or to semi-forcibly arrest her sister and bring her into the fold that way. And, again, when Lilith realizes the Emperor won't do as he promised ... the shock is palpable. And the betrayal must have stung. Enough for her to ditch the Coven and side with her family. While the fandom likes to argue the moral and ethical issues surrounding Lilly's curse - especially issues of betrayal and redemption - the issue I think is interesting to look for in the future is how the characters themselves look at the issue! Is Eda or Lilly more likely to forgive Lilly her childhood misdeed? (My own thought - Eda would laugh it off, as such potentially deadly shenanigans are totally how Eda lives her own life, but Lilly will carry the burden of this even after her sister's forgiveness ... because that sort of thing is something Lilly doesn't want to do, or like doing when she feels forced into it.) How about folks like Luz, King, or even Hooty who care for Eda? Will they be quick to forgive, or slow? There's all sorts of fun storytelling that could be had from this little nugget of drama! P.S. - For those familiar with the D&D alignment thing, I see the situations between Eda and Lilly as being classic Chaotic-Neutral (Eda) and Lawful-Neutral (Lilly) interacting! And their respective world-views (strengths, weaknesses, and blind-spots!) seem colored by the same.

Im back from the exam week, it was rough, but whatever Getting back with owl house Belos has one of ma favorite archetype of villain, the cult leader, cause his narcissism makes underestimate Luz but his psychopath/sociopath part keep it doing dangerous and at certain point unpredictable. For the next season (I gonna be honest I saw) there are several parts than the first season keeps to develop, like the amity´s crush with luz, the belos plan´s and Lilith sharing the curse with Eda, I honestly don't think that going to disappoint you

Mark Ten

My apologies to all if my replies were spoilery, I havent seen much beyond the current eps here, but I did see some things online which may have become stuck in my head... I will try to do better

alyciadweeb

Aaah I actually did notice it but idk why I didn’t say anything 😂 I think I was just too shocked after the amazing episode!

alyciadweeb

My dad got me that shirt for Christmas 🥺 It’s literally my favorite thing he’s ever gotten me because it shows how well he knows me lol! I totally agree with you about the pacing in this one. It wasn’t nearly as engaging as EP 18. LOL I love that you rewrote the episode, that’s badass 🤣 Didn’t you do that for the Star series finale as well? Or am I thinking of someone else? I think Emporer Belos will end up being a true villain. I think his calmness and his letting Luz go just adds to his eeriness. Like he let her win this battle because he feels so confident he’ll win the war. Good observation on the castle thing though! I wonder if he’s somehow tied to it because of the titan’s power? DarkAshtar made a really cool prediction that he thinks the heart in the throne room is the titan’s heart. I am sooo curious to learn more about whether he can actually communicate with the titan or if he’s just bluffing for power. And the way Belos seems to need that green goo makes me think he couldn’t venture far from the castle without it. I think you’re onto something for sure. I’m so excited for season 2 as well :D

alyciadweeb

Omg the moment when you realize Eda was going to forfeit was HEARTBREAKING. You can tell Lilith immediately felt remorse. And it’s such a shame that the lack of communication between them (Eda telling Lily she’d let her have the open spot) led Lilith to doing the unthinkable 🥺 It’s equally as heartbreaking to see and think about everything Lily has gone through to try and get the curse reversed. In a way I think Lily already was sharing Eda’s pain… just mentally instead of physically. To have that guilt weighing on you for years and years would just be awful! And I totally agree with what you said, that while Eda can laugh off deadly situations because she lives her life in danger, Lily would have a harder time letting it go. It will be sooo interesting to see how their relationship develops in season 2!!!

alyciadweeb

Oh man I don’t envy you- I am not a fan of exams, especially a whole week of them lol! Hopefully you pass with flying colors ☺️ I think Belos is going to make a great villain. His calmness and confidence is so spooky to me. I am SO excited for season 2!!!

alyciadweeb

No worries at all!!! I saw you commented something and kind of scrolled past it because I didn’t remember knowing about it yet but it also didn’t seem like a huge spoiler. I appreciate you being so aware though 💖

That's awesome your Dad nailed it :D I hate giving gifts on a regular schedule, but there's nothing better than finding something you KNOW someone will love and seeing their face when you give it to them. I definitely thought about rewriting the Star finale but I don't think I actually did because I'd basically have to rewrite the whole of season 4 xD Speaking of Star I just started rewatching it 2 days ago and now I lowkey got a crush on Hekapoo again god damnit lol 😆

alyciadweeb

Omg touché there’s a lot of rewriting that would need to be done 🤣😅😭 And to your credit, they made Heckapoo a very crush-able character!

👏👏a round of applause for a fantastic first season of this show👏👏 truly it’s been such a ride already and I can only expand on your excitement that there’s still more to come! There’s so much to talk about here and I’m gonna get right into it but first I have to address that AMAZING shirt you have on!!🤩 I don’t think I’ve ever had such a strong positive reaction to a shirt before like what a masterpiece you are wearing right there I love it!!✨😂 Okay first of all I have to talk about Luz, she’s come SO far in just one season! Not only in her confidence and bravery but her magic too, this episode was a really great look at the extent of her current abilities and it’s so exciting for a relatively new witch! She wasn’t exactly going toe to toe with Lilith or Belos here but she definitely held her own and has made leaps and bounds from starting this show a mere mortal😅✨ I liked that we got to see why Lilith did what she did, it was really selfish and messed up but at the same time real, she did something rash without thinking of the greater consequences, it doesn’t make it okay but the fact that she wasn’t fully aware of what she was doing to Eda means I can understand. This sibling dynamic has really been one of my favourite aspects of the show so far, there’s something so uniquely interesting about siblings in storytelling and when it’s done right can make for the most emotional and heartbreaking moments! The shared pain spell was something I wanted to get into also, a great full circle moment for the episode but also I don’t necessarily understand what the spell did, Eda looks healed of her curse and yes they mentioned their powers are weakened but the only real affect I can see on the both of them is they lost colour in one of their eyes. Not the same eye either, Eda’s left and Lilith’s right, I wonder if that’s significant but also I wonder if we’ll start to see more effects of that spell on the two of them in the following season. I also loved hearing about some of the lore of this realm at the beginning of the episode too! King mentioned the land being born from the flesh and bone of a fallen Titan, then later emperor Belos mentioned that he is merely a messenger for the Titan. Is he speaking more as a prophet and I’m thinking to much into this or could he actually just be a pawn for a much greater force? Really I just love the world building aspect of that scene, it’s interesting to see the foundations of a world we came into so late on, but it also just adds to the immersion for me when the world feels lived in and has its own story to tell. It’s funny I was thinking when we got to the end of last episode, like that’s where any other show would’ve ended the season, a high stakes adrenaline fuelled thrill ride of emotions with a crazy cliffhanger to have you pulling your hair out waiting for next season, but I kinda liked that they didn’t and that the finale was a slower burn, more interested in the inner workings of the characters and what’s to come. Fantastic stuff, yeah I think it’s safe to say I love this show now wholeheartedly✨ For a question this week have you been listening to any good music recently, I’ve been jamming to Wolf Alice’s most recent album, especially How Can I Make It Okay? Really awesome band if you haven’t already had the pleasure. Hope you have a lovely rest of your week mate and take care

As much as I liked this episode, it felt like they took their time to build up to a big finale and then just kind of rushed through it so quickly. Like, it all just wrapped itself up in a few minutes. I thought for sure Willow and Gus would play some part in the rescue. They even made a point to mention that they would be there to help Luz, but nothing really came of that. I really like that the curse has been split between Eda and Lilith and they each have one grey eye now. That was a nice touch. I kind of feel bad for Lilith. She was just a kid and made a dumb decision that she thought was inconsequential and it's effected her entire life as much as Eda's. It's bad enough that she cursed her sister, but then to realize she did it for no reason because her sister was willing to give it all up for her anyway; heartbreaking. I would think that Luz will have no problem staying in school. Belos told the whole crowd that the Titan chose to let Eda go, so as far as the world is concerned they are legitimately free and clear. I guess we'll see soon enough. I'm really looking forward to seeing where season 2 goes now!

The good news is the hiatus is end 😅 Yes that confidence reminds me a villian of one of My favorite series (she-ra and the princesses of power)

"I think season 2 is going to have some amazing episodes in store." prepare your heart because they will give you some heart attacks 🤣 each episode is better than the last 😁

alyciadweeb

LOL I’m so glad you like the shirt! It makes me smile too every time I put it on 🤣 I’m genuinely amazed by Luz. I feel like a proud mama watching her grow through the course of this season. I’m so attached to her as a character and I can’t wait to see how far she goes in season 2 😍 I am sooo curious to see if there’s a greater evil force at hand. I think you’re onto something- that Belos is really just a pawn for something much more powerful and sinister. It gives me goosies just thinking about it! I think we’ve only just cracked the surface of the Boiling Isles/Titan lore. Omg Wolf Alice is so good. The song “No Hard Feelings” wrecks my world every time 😭😭 Don’t Delete The Kisses is probably my favorite! What’s your favorite song by them? I’ve been on an Atta Boy kick lately. Their album “Out of Sorts” is just so good the whole way through- short and sweet too so it’s an easy listen. Thanks for your thoughts and questions as always, friend ☺️ See you next week for season 2 HOOT HOOT 🥳

alyciadweeb

Really good point on Gus and Willow being absent for most of the finale! They had such great development this season it’s a shame they didn’t get a chance to shine. And I agree that Lilith’s situation is super heartbreaking. I have a hard time not holding a grudge because I love Eda so much 🤣 But when I look back at all the dumb stuff I did as a kid, I can understand how Lilith made a mistake like that. I really love that she decided to share the curse with her too, though. I wonder if they’ll start having to work together to get their magic to work? Oooh that’s a good point about Luz and Hexide. I guess the rest of the world didn’t see what we saw behind the scenes.

Jordan

Oooo such great song choicesss!! OMG Don’t Delete The Kisses especially that song just takes me awayyy, so dreamy✨ White Leather always hits me right in the heart and Your Loves Whore just gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it, oh oh! Gotta shout out Sadboy too that’s gets stuck in my head for daysss at a time!! Awe dude I literally just started welling up THINKING about Walden Pond🥺 also just throwing it out there you’re actually the coolest person I hope you know that! I can’t say I’ve heard that whole album all the way through tho so I think I’m gonna go do that now! Thank you!!!😁 I would love to know some of your favourite Atta Boy songs too if you have a minute✨ Bells makes my heart happy that’s definitely up there for me^_^

When I think back to the impulsive mistakes I made as a kid I'm actually befuddled how I'm still alive. I'm sure that if I thought I was putting a small hex on someone for just a day there would have been a moment or two in the frustration of adolescence that I would have felt the temptation. The only thing that changes its severity from a simple hex to a curse is the fact that it didn't go away when it was supposed to. Because of one distinction, she lost her sister and has lived with this horrible guilt constantly. In a way, she cursed them both that day. It's like she has already been sharing Eda's curse the whole time.

alyciadweeb

WALDEN POND MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I’M IN THE ENDING SCENE OF AN INDIE FILM 🥺 I love that one, Outta Sorts and A Dog’s Adventure (although that one makes me cry too because we lost our family pup around the same time I discovered that song… so sweet and wholesome 😭) And I don’t know whether to be honored by your compliment or sad that you don’t know anyone cooler than me 🤣🤪🤓 I don’t think anyone’s ever used the word cool to describe me so I’LL TAKE IT! 🤣💖
