I saw it pop up and I was gonna wait until morning, but I just couldn't do it! Rick and Morty is back with a vengeance. I was pretty excited to see Morty just go for it with Jessica in the face of death. It's a bummer that it didn't work out again .Maybe it's time to add a new crush to the show. Maybe his Atlantis hook-up will show up with a surprise some day.

Oh wow they came out swinging with this premiere man. 😮 There was so much going on. I gotta admit when the farmer guy went through the portal with Morty I didn't immediately get the implication that his wife would be dead once he came back...they got me. ^^ And then they cranked it up to 11 with that world basically creating a hatred and fear based society around Morty. 😆 When Jessica went through I was like oh no is Jessica dead now please no Morty will be really unhinged and/or depressed. If this is any indication of how the season will go then holy shit I can't wait....now on to watching this like 3 more times so I don't miss anything hehe.

AMAZINGGG!!!🌟😭 I mean WOW, what a way to start this season!!🔥 I got such season 2 vibes from this episode omg, just so many hilarious moments and something so insignificant like the time portal that’s just ageing some wine getting completely blown out of proportion, and of course it’s all Morty’s fault😭 just everything R&M do best really😂 I like what you said about Jessica I never really thought about it like that but yeah it’s really cool that they played with her having next to no substance to her life beyond being this kind of running joke for Morty’s character! I wonder if that will permanently effect her world view from now on because she seemed really changed by that experience😂 also her shouting “fuck off I’m a time god!” at that dude trying to hit on her absolutely killed meee, one of the many, many hilarious parts of this episode I was laughing so hard🤣 As for my favourite character I would have to say either Rick or Summer, purely because both of them crack me up pretty much every time they speak! Also because like you mentioned Summer has come a hell of a long way from season 1 and it’s really cool to see her so confident in her own abilities and just herself! My only wish would be to see Summer have even more involvement in episodes from here on out because she really makes every episode she’s heavily involved in imo!! Overall this was just so much fun and maybe my favourite premiere yet judging from the smile I can’t currently wipe off my face!😁 I’m just so excited to see what these other 9 have in store now this couldn’t have gone any better for me I’m so happy! Once again living for your new hair and I hope you have a lovely rest of your week✨✨✨ #RICKANDMORTYSBACKBABYYY

Also as a little side note I wonder what “clone” Beth is up to now and if she’s gonna play any part in the oncoming episodes? It sounded at the end of last season like she was kinda wanting to stick around and help raise the kids at least for a while, but maybe she’s just off having more space adventures for now idk, just thought I’d add that😁✨

See, I think Rick is more cynical than he used to be. In the first two seasons, Morty and Summer didn't know what they were doing, and so Rick was in charge of everything, and as such he took some amount of pride in teaching the two how to go about things. From season 3 on, but especially in this episode, Morty and Summer know how to do these kinds of tasks on their own, and so Rick knows that they're gonna fuck everything up somehow, and so he doesn't really realize their growth, he just treats them as understudies. Also, Alycia, I thought we've been over this: every time Rick and Morty returns, you have to commemorate the occasion with a burp! It's a dweebdom tradition! XD

I'm so glad this show's back! And this was a great start to the season! I hope we see more of Mr. Nimbus, because he's SO funny! And I loved the progression of that society Morty disrupted, and how their culture changed over time, out of their fear of Morty, of all people. So good! XD

I haven't clicked on a video so fast in a long time! SO GLAD WE'RE BACK

If you didn't know the title is a play on My Dinner with Andre. I've never seen the movie before, but I know Dan Harmon also heavily referenced it in an episode of Community, the one where Jeff meets Abed at a restaurant for his birthday.

If anyone needs help syncing the reaction to the episode on YouTube you can try out this browser extension that I developed: https://www.casper.live/ It is still a work-in-progress, but it works. My recommended "offset" for this reaction is 67.

Rick hasn't had much emotional growth yet, because i see S05 as this season establishing his "downfall" after which he is forced to actually grow emotionally to overcome it. Way how Nimbus told Rick that he used to fear him, but now all Rick is, is a sad, pathetic drunk also seems to be part of this theme. Like how Rick said "Time to Deus Ex Machina this", which is something he did in the previous seasons where he would just use his genius and gadgets to fix any problem and basically be a god, but in this season the theme seems to be that Rick messes up or his schemes backfire on him and he's only saved by luck or by someone else's intervention. Rick did mess up in the earlier seasons, but he did also kinda fix them. Like the whole Cronenberg universe, where he did mess up, but it didn't really matter in the end as he knew how to just switch universes. This time he would had been 100% screwed without Nimbus.
