OPM was specifically created with Saitama already unbeatable so that his story would be about overcoming relatable problems, because the reality is that "punching is oftentimes pretty useless against life's problems." Every other character is portrayed as an extreme caricature to juxtapose Saitama's prosaic frustrations. They try to satire every anime trope: enhanced drama, over-sexualized women, ever-impending doom, exaggerated action, the villain "power-up". None of it effects Saitama because he finds it all mundane. The irony being that the only things that usually get a dramatic reaction from him are the mundane inconveniences of life. And yet you still get the added bonus of a true hero's journey being told through the support players. That's what makes it so entertaining.

In case you don't know yet, OPM is one big (great) parody on typical Shonen Anime (Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece etc.). Every little aspect of it gets exaggerated to an extend. It doesn't take itself too seriously and that is what makes this show so great. Loved your reaction.
