Noticed another SVTFOE blink-and-you'll-miss-it-moment: when Star's despairing about Marco in front of the tapestry, for just a second you can see her hands trembling.

Gonna take this an episode at a time since there's just lot here that to digest. I think the first thing that strikes me here is the short little opening vignette where we learn of Mina's backstory. And while I think it could have been much better set up if season 4 had devoted more time to it instead of some pretty meh filler stuff *cough* looking at you pony head show *cough*, it really does give paint Mina as a bit of a tragic character. She had NO idea what she was signing up for when she accepted Queen Solaria's offer to serve and become a solarian warrior. Just a simple and ignorant peasant girl who got caught up in something much greater than herself and paid an extremely high price for it. And while it doesn't excuse her evil actions, I can at least understand a bit how she went a little nuts, basically being functionally immortal and filled to the brim with unstable magic spells. Another thing I think is worth pointing out here and I find myself disagreeing with, is the idea that Moon's betrayal was rushed and "out of nowhere." The signs were definitely there if you look. Beginning with Moon's declaration that she just "couldn't trust Eclipsa" to Star the episode after they rescued her from Pie Island, to the enticements of the first mewman family that clung to her and River, to their yurt community they started when the mewmans who had been basically kicked out of their homes went to stay with her, to finally even her discussion with Mina in "ghosts of butterfly castle." It all planted the seed of Moon's betrayal in subtle and sometimes not so subtle ways. But to say that Moon's betrayal was something conjured up in the final couple of episodes is just not true. The signs were there for most of the fourth season. Now Tavern, that is just oof, a sad episode all around. Mewni seems totally screwed, Moon's relationship with Star is in tatters, and Star is facing the imminent loss of the most important person in her world. I remember the just absolute pit of dread I had in my stomach when I saw this episode, and I can still feel that pang even now. And that decision right? You know, for someone facing the end of his own existence, I feel like Glossaryck is really taking things well... But for now, I'll leave it there and as always, I look forward to your next video especially as its such a crazy and important episode!

Its little touches like this that help make this show so wonderful. There's so many blink and you'll miss it things n this show that rewatching is always such a treat. Like in the early seasons, there are so many "looks" that either Star or Marco give each otherthat are just a split second but so adorable lol.

I feel like I must have missed something regarding Moon's coup. I may have even mentioned this before ... this put Star in a lot of danger. This started while Star was still the Royal Advisor (more like shadow queen), and while she was no longer that after Eclipsa's cornonation, Moon had to know Star would rush to Eclipsa's defense. Maybe that's why Moon was so on-board with her 15 year old daughter taking an unsupervised trip with her boyfriend ... it would get Star off Mewni and Hekapoo could prevent her return. Even though the trip didn't happen, it still almost worked, with Hekapoo trapping her on Earth. If not for Janna and the magic well, it might have worked. But things can (and did) go wrong and as powerful as those warriors were, Star probably would have been killed. I guess "do what's best for the queendom" includes the risk of sacrificing her daughter...

Sure, it very well might of, hence why I think your theory of why Moon kind of nudged Star in a direction that got her off of Mewni and away from the impending coup is likely correct, though I doubt it will ever be confirmed. And to be fair, Moon's always been a "Duty before self" kind of ruler, the exact opposite of Eclipsa and to a lesser extent, Star. I suspect if Mina and Star threw down for real, Mina not have had it in her to finish Star off considering they were "Mud-sisters" after all. Imagine if Tom hadn't come back to Earth to break it off with Star when he did, she might have missed the entire coup.
