Love Junkin' Janna! Its got Janna at her sassy best, and Tom at his clueless/amiable best. This is one of the things I love so much about SvtFoE, in that it can seemingly effortlessly blend fluff and relevant plot so seamlessly into an episode. We get a seemingly innocent episode opening on Janna and Tom hanging out and doing the whole "you need to have a life outside of your SO" and before you can say "boot sledding" a sinister and peculiar bird shows up out of nowhere and we're off to the races learning about Mina, the MHC, and the shadow looming over Mewni only grows longer. Great way to build up foreboding as the season continues its inexorable march to the finale. And speaking for foreboding, "A spell with no name" is a weird episode that I still think works to build that rising tension. That spell is seriously bad news and Star's old spells' reactions to Eclipsa's rather ominous looking spells is classic (also, I personally love Hypnoslumber with the stun lightning eyes myself). Love the idea that the wand holds a room for each queen's spells to live in. I love seeing things from the spells' perspective for sure. Two final notes I'd like to bring up here though. One, I love JanTom's energy as a couple. Janna has a great way of keeping Tom grounded and focused when he's prone to sometimes get distracted with flights of fancy. This episode is where a lot of the energy for that ship came from and you can see why it's so popular. And two, this is a rare episode where Tom and Star get along famously. I find it amusing and maybe a bit telling, however, that they get along best when they AREN'T in the same location as each other... Just some food for thought as a filthy Starco shipper. Oh! and a P.S. since it the thought just struck me as I type out this comment. Chalk up "A Spell with no Name" as another underscore for the "Eclipsa is a great person, but terrible ruler" checkbox. It is INCREDIBLY irresponsible to create a spell that is so strong it could break containment out of the wand and potentially endanger the entire universe. Just saying... Not a good look.

Yessssss I am ALL HERE for the Janna and Tom ship! I agree- they balance each other out really well and it's fun to see. Amazing insight as always, and the point about Tom and Star getting along best when they're away from one another speaks volumes! (The "filthy Starco shippers" made me LOL... because... same.)
