Okay, I'm a Starco girl for life, but I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for Tom in this one. He's really trying to be the best boyfriend he can be!

And holy crap, Marco Jr. is the hardest I've laughed at an episode of Star in a while! The whole exchange between Marco and his mom at the beginning was HYSTERICAL.

What did you guys think of these episodes? :)

Thoughts, thoughts running through my head. First up, "Is Another Mystery." Bittersweet episode for sure, but like you mentioned it brought up some very important points. First and something my inner Starco fanboy screamed aloud in triumph over is that this episode really highlights the stark contrast between both Marco and Tom's relationships with Star. We see Star's preference for Marco on full display here. She initially wanted him and not Tom to come along, and it was only though an act of mercy on Marco's part that Tom even got to go on this adventure. That preference tells us something that Star trusts Marco more to handle the important things. Which of course we've seen time and time again such as in "Monster Bash", "Night Life," and "Deep Dive" Further, throughout the entire episode, until the very end Tom basically bungles everything. he wants to give up before they really even get started and continually exasperates Star. Just more evidence that those two are not nearly as compatible as Marco and Star are. I know you were a little disappointed in Buff Frog for giving up on Mewni and Star's attempt at mewman/monster reconciliation after only one failed attempt Alycia, but you have to remember that he's lived with a life time of oppression as Mewni has been mistreating monsters since basically the beginning of their history. He's a father now, and he might see leaving as the only option to ensure they get to grow up in a world without systematic segregation and oppression. I really can't blame the guy for wanting to bail out. "Marco Jr," or as I like to think of it the second Halloween episode after "Scary Larry." Seriously this episode had Cronenberg levels of body horror. The noises as his bones snapped and popped into the portrait shape were straight up disturbing if you thought about the implications there and just the idea of being transformed into a portrait are pretty damn horrifying. HOrror aside, this episode had some very sweet moments. I loved every second that marco's parents were on screen. It's a treat to see them again, and I loved the "look" Angie gave Marco when he didn't want to give her a real hug. Full on laughed out loud at that little part. Some great cameos with Gustav and the Morrisons. Also if you look closely, the crazy old lady from Star Struck that Mina bumped into is in the background with at the party. But I gotta say my favorite moment is Star running at Marco and saying, "Oh, Marco, you're beautiful again!" so sweet and another point for Starco! Overall another solid pair of episodes as we cruise towards a finale I know you'll love. I've seen season three get a lot of flak for being "weaker" than the first and second seasons, but in all honesty I think its incredibly solid. It does a fantastic job of flipping the script to show Marco being the fish out of water and all the trials and tribulations he's going through. As always, can't wait for next week's vid and getting to discuss another great pair of episodes!

See here are my thoughts. Tom is technically "half-demon" which I'm not sure quite translates to the same thing as monster. Demons can be "monstrous" sure, but they have much different lineage and are generally unpleasant things. Maybe that was the point of confusion for people? That being said, I cracked up when he busted out his tail. Star's reaction of, "Okay, that's new" killed me. Also Buff Frog is a national treasure, end of story!

Another point for Starco, I think. I don't recall the canon, she either has known him their entire lives, or they met at the Silver Bell ball several years ago, but either way, despite dating twice, Tom had still not opened up to her about having a tail. Yeah yeah yeah, teenager body awkwardness blah blah blah, and Star and Marco have communication issues too (including one major one that's causing them and the people around them a lot of emotional pain), but tails are a common thing on Mewni and with demons yet he still kept that a secret. Tom's really trying and he's become a likable character, but it's so dang obvious that Star and Tom have needs and wants that the other cannot fulfill. Star and Marco have GOT to come clean with each other ... before they "run out of time" again.

I really enjoyed hearing your take on Buff Frog’s leaving. It was interesting to look at it from a different perspective. I didn’t really think about him being a dad, either. He’s gotta look after those little ones!
