2023-01-15 23:13:25 Wow… Not gonna lie. Sophomore Slump got me. As in… it got my eyes wet. I really like Jackie, and I’ve always liked her & Marco’s relationship. They have a lot of fun together, and are really enjoyable to watch. Despite feeling like Marco belongs with Star, I wouldn’t have been upset at all if he ended up with Jackie. Still, I love what she did at the end of this episode. Like you said, that was really mature, and just highlights why she’s so awesome. And yeah, I like that she’s her own great character, and not just a plot device to get between Star & Marco. The scene with Marco’s friends and family saying goodbye also really got me. I’m excited for Marco & Star’s reunion, and Marco’s adventures on Mewni, but I hope we see these Earth characters again at some point. It was cool to see Ferguson & Alfonso again (it’s really been a while – They even made a joke about it in an earlier episode), and I always love seeing Sensei. His emotional outbursts are so funny. Also, it’s kind of a smaller thing, but during that roleplaying game, I found it really funny how Janna didn’t even look at the dice before announcing what happened. XD I also want to say, Marco was totally me in this episode. Once I go through something, or get excited about something, I can get really annoying, and want to talk to people about it non-stop (or write really long comments about it. :P) I really liked the message in Demoncism. Sometimes people feel like they have to change so badly, that they start looking for all these shortcuts. But to truly change is a long process, and doesn’t happen overnight. I like that this show acknowledges that. Like Star said at the end – The important thing is that Tom WANTS to change. That’s the first (and arguably the most difficult) step. Now, hopefully he can take the next one. And yeah… The demoncism had some really creepy imagery for a kids’ show… XD Favourite Quotes: “Look, we can go ask my ex. He got demoncized.” – Ponyhead “Which ex? Oh! Sorry. That sounded way more judgey than I wanted it to.” – Star “We just want a map, you corporate turd!” – Ponyhead “Also, who is bringin’ what to the potluck, OK? Because I don’t wanna see nothin’ but chips!” – Ponyhead “Wow! Magic manacles. Magicles.” – Tom “In Fwonce everything was better. The arthouse films, the fashion, the cwussonts. She said it just like that! ‘Cwussont’! Who does that?!” – Mrs. Diaz “Wow, your friend sounds annoying.” – Marco “It was me, Marco! ‘Cwussont’!” – Mrs. Diaz “You know… I expected this from my mother (and my probation officer), but I didn’t expect this from you!” – Sensei

"Well, I hope I'm not sending you off to your death." -- Principal Skeeves, in likely foreshadowing "Is this even legal?" -- Raphael "What a creep." -- Marko, inserting the dagger into Janco

I promised a link to the only other fanfic/art that caught my attention. I'll upfront say this comic has issues that even somebody like me who is not a devotee of fanfic/art can see, so don't expect high art. But, it happens to be in a genre I like, so that makes it good enough for me to be willing to share. I did a little research before I read it to make sure I didn't get spoiled, and it contains references only through Toffee Endgame; anything that happens to mesh with what comes later is pure coincidence. Note that it's a little difficult to navigate to the correct pages in some spots. https://moringmark.tumblr.com/post/153409664078

"Sometimes people feel like they have to change so badly, that they start looking for all these shortcuts. But to truly change is a long process, and doesn’t happen overnight." << Oh man, this is so beautifully said, and so true! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these episodes. You always leave such insightful comments and I really appreciate that.

Also Ponyhead's lines in Demoncism were CRACKING ME UP. I wonder how much of it is just Jenny Slate improvising?

Oh my gosh, thank you for sharing this! I've only read 2 pages so far but I already love it so much! Jackie saying, "So.... Do you skate?" killed me! That is totally something she would say!

I love the design they came up with for the new girl's wond. I have a bit of a thing for butterflies, with a pair of butterfly tattoos, I compete with Papillons (roughly Butterfly Dogs in english), and of course I'm a Star Butterfly fan. One warning ... this team is still actively producing work for SVTFOE including weekly one page comics, and has been paging out a new comic series called Tom vs Jannanigans, which I presume is about our new ship. Ship War was produced prior to the middle of the third season while these are obviously being done after the series has finished. The rest of his work should probably be avoided for now unless you've secretly already finished the series.

I just noticed an easter egg ... look at what's attached to the new boys belt.
