My theory with Skids is that they had the designs and everything ready for a Masterpiece and/or Earthrise but didn't think he'd do well so shelved it, then your review sparked some buzz and thats what got them to go through with it for Legacy.

So, ID’ing that MP 01 brings me back… waaaay back! To my friend Adam who had the same version. With its gimpy smokestacks and it’s “Movie Accurate” carbon scoring. This is 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime! And don’t think my buddy didn’t get shit for owning what is ostensibly the silliest version of this guy! Not as terrible as the shiny apple red “The Movie 20th Anniversary” version, with inauthentic sound bites playing from the naff figure stand… it’s like Takara went from MP-01 as a straight boss to MP-04 that turned it up to elevensies, while Hasbro shrugged and called it a day, then power shrugged for the follow up! Oh the days when anything from Hasbro was guaranteed to pale in comparison!
