Heya everyone!

I hope you haven't gotten tired of add-on releases just yet, because there are lots more to come over the next few weeks!

One of them is this week's Visual Feedback for Reviews, an oldie but goodie which I've freshly ported over to Anki 2.1.

Visual Feedback flashes a small notification at the center of your screen that informs you of whether you've chosen a passing or failing grade for the card at hand. In the spirit of gamifying Anki, visual cues like this can help encourage you to keep reviewing, and also provide with more clearer signalling on whether you've selected the right rating.

Aside from 2.1 support, this latest release of Visual Feedback also sports a number of new features, including:

  • The ability to configure the add-on via Anki's built-in config dialog
  • A new imageSet option, allowing you to quickly switch between different image sets
  • Support for installing additional image sets via the user_files directory

Here is what the image sets look like and how you can configure them:

For a full list of changes and more detailed instructions on adding our own passing/failing image sets, please see the download post. It should be coming up in a second for everyone at the add-on aficionado tier and up.

Visual Feedback for Reviews v1.0.0-beta.1 will remain a Patreon exclusive for a bit (how long depends on the number of things to fix) and be published to AnkiWeb after that.

Next up in this series of Anki 2.1 ports will be Puppy Reinforcement, so make sure to get your d'awws ready!

Enjoy!

2023-01-22 23:21:30 Is it possible to have a different image for each pass option? Eg: a negative image for a lapse, but then progressively better images going from "hard" -> "good" -> "easy"?

Not at the moment, but that's an interesting thought! I guess one counterpoint to it is that the original idea behind the add-on was to somewhat reduce the cognitive load over which exact passing grade you've chosen (the add-on originally used to be part of a series of "zen mode" add-ons for Anki). So I'm not 100% sure if this is a good fit for Visual Feedback. Maybe Color Confirmation could be a good alternative for the time being?: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1084228676

Hey there, NPR Hidden Brain made a very recent episode about conditioning and learning: https://www.npr.org/2020/02/03/802422904/when-things-click-the-power-of-judgment-free-learning It reminded me instantly of this add-on and might inspire you to include audio effects. Also, there is lovac42's add-on which already has audio: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/2073603704
