So I started out just wanting to draw some Zelda girls, and then I had an idea and then that idea got out of hand. I have been looking at some Studio Ghibli art books lately and I wanted to paint a Ghibli-esque interior background with a cute cel shaded figure and then the Bombchu Bowling girl came up in discussion in the poll and I got out of hand.

I've been a little quiet this week while I juggle other things so I hope this is at least a little refreshing. Ol' Wint's always throwing in some style curveballs just to keep things interesting for myself. I think after this I'm going to chill out and just focus on the comic for the rest of the month.

I included the background by itself because of course. :p And my first concept sketch for it. I think I might have shared this with gold patrons already but it's always fun to se concept/realization.

Happy Thursday everyone!

The way you did the background is incredible. And the whole thing looks like a frame from a feature!!

HOW DID YOU DO THAT BACKGROUND? It’s gorgeous! You’re so skilled at anything, now I definitely know I’ll never catch up to you… 😔

Thank you Chase! I've been in love with the work of Ghibli background artist Kazuo Oga ever since art school. I feel like I only know how to paint clouds from staring at his work lol

I'm glad the contrast works for you and isn't jarring. I'm always impressed by how choice the flat colors are in anime. They pick one color and it perfectly captures a skin tone in shadow it's incredible 😩

Lol I don't know if I documented the process enough 😅 But maybe I should put together a bunch of screencaps in sequence and add some notes. :)

Nono you've got it all wrong! Every time I've had that thought about an artist's work over the decades of drawing, by the time I fiiiinally approach their skills I realize I wouldn't want to make work like them anyways. It looks good from a distance but everyone has different tastes and finds different avenues to make really unique things.

I wasn't aware of this character before you started drawing her..I love her <3
