Hi Gang.

This wip wednesday might be a bit different in both, scale and topic.
When I flipped through the new Necromunda rulebook one day, I stumbled upon this epic artwork of an insanly huge pile of containers transformed into a hab block and it sparked the idea to transfgorm this artwork into a gaming board.
I have always been a fan of vertical gaming boards for Necromunda, so this might be great fun to build and play on and a nice change from the horizontal Asch Wastes Board.

I learned the absolute basics of Blender and started to do some quick layouts to get a rough idea of how many containers I would need and if the whole thing is doable.
Realising the cost for such a build made out of original warhammer containder would be around 6.000€ (at least) only for the plastic kits I started looking for ways on how to make this possible without ruining my life.

So I tried to reach out to Games Workshop with a detailed proposal and ask if they would be interested ind supporting this project, but unfortunately never got a reply.

After chatting to friend, who just casted very, very cool looking floor tiles for his kill team terrain from resin, I decided to give the whole recasting thing a try and ordered some silicon and resin.

My first attempt was to create molds from each part that comes in the container kit, which worked out pretty good but I soon realized that the whole casting process, cleaning up step and building takes way too long to get 300 or so containers done. Also the parts came out slightly warped from time to time which does'nt make the job of building the containers easier.

So I decided to try and cast a whole container.
I have to say: that seems to be workin very well. Way faster, no building time and almost no cleaning up. Nice!
To save some resin, and more importantly weight, I throw some XPS foam bits in the middle and fill up the mold with resin. That means, that only one side of the container looks nice, but since these are stacked together, the ugly side is easy to hide.
I will now try and build the base structure out of these recasts and mix it up with some original GW to have some open ones. Whish me luck! :-D

Would you be interested in a tutorial on how to do recast? Let me know :)

But most importantly: Without your support I wouldn't be able to start crazy projects like these.
So thank you, thank you, thank you.
I hope you find this project interesting and would like to come on along on this ride.

Hi Cor, new patreon drawn by this project and thr way you've recast the containers and painted them so nicely. I'm about to give recasting zone mortalis parts using the hollow method. Any extra advice ?

Would love to see a tutorial on your casting process!
