Mamamoo name was originally Mr ambiguous song name so then it passed to Mamamoo and they gave it that meaning of a baby mumbling because they original concept was to approach people with music as artist etc

mamamoo's name actually came from the song kim dohoon produced for quincy jones when he visited south korea. "mamamoo" was the hook of the song and their really was no meaning to it at all haha. the song later became mr. ambiguous which then turned to be their debut song. they later made up an explanation/reason as to why their group was called mamamoo 😂

as for the name, Zach Sang actually gave a good elaboration about the explanation on why the Mamamoo name when they did an interview in his show upon their first time in US due to kcon.

i remember they once told us that one of the group name to be consider is "belly button". haha

Moonbyul revealed on Queendom that one of the name options they had before debut was Belly Button. Like, insane! Wheein also has said before that she didn't like Mamamoo bc she thought it was a sily name but afterwards she ended up embracing it and loving. The truth tho is that Mamamoo didn't actually meant anything, so they gave it the 'baby mumble' meaning after thinking and talking about what they wanted to represent in the music indrustry and thus the myth was created.

Mr. Ambiguous was originally just called mamamoo and had these sounds repeated and they had performed it for a famous male singer but then it was decided to be their debut song and the name was changed and they were named mamamoo
