I don't think that they're trying to say that celebrities can't dance. To me, I think they are upset because this show was presented as a chance for dancers to finally step out from behind the celebrities and show the strength of professional dancers. However, many times celebrities, who already have fame and prestige came into play. So I think they were just frustrated mostly.

Yeah I think the idea of bringing in celebrities just to rack up views to help with the final score goes against the idea that they're being judged for their dance. They're not saying idols can't dance, but that using idols to get views and not let the performance speak for itself goes against the principles of a dance competition. Although, Mnet obviously allowed it to happen so I don't fault groups for using their connections to their advantage. I also understand why some of them were frustrated.

I totally agree that they weren't saying that idols can't dance - I think they're making a distinction between "dancers" and "celebrities" because they know how the industry/public has always distinguished the two. For a long time in Kpop, "dancers" (ie people who only dance and do not sing) were treated simply as "back-up" props of celebrities and did not gain fame and recognition even though they are so integral to the performances. So I think the frustration with inviting celebrities comes from them not wanting to perpetuate the stereotype that "dancers" are just props to help celebrities shine, because the reason why many of the women came on the show was to flip that narrative, elevate the status of pure "dancers," and showcase how awesome just dancing by itself can be. In this context, it also makes sense to me that many of them felt disappointed about WANT's performance because they felt that WANT was relegating themselves to being "back-up dancers" of celebrities instead of letting pure "dancers" take center-stage and show the public what they are truly capable of

Agree with every comment 👍🏼 there was also a bit a backlash or still is from previous sequels (street man fighter) from the dance community bc the judges have idols. it’s not to discredit that they’re great dancers, it’s just a bit frustrating that they wouldn’t be able to fully critique it on a professional dance level
