Always loved to see Goku's tornado flex after shedding off his 100 kg (220 pound) training weights. In the manga, Goku mentions that each piece of his gear (undershirt, wristbands, and boots) weighs 50 lbs each, totaling 250 lbs according to Tien. However, in the anime dub, Goku tells Kuririn that the boots weigh 20 kg each (44 lbs.), and Yamcha notes he's holding 100 kilos of weight (undershirt and wristbands). This sums up to a total of 140 kg (309 lbs.). Despite the inconsistencies in translation, it's safe to assume Goku was wearing around 100-140 kg or 220-300 lbs of weight while effortlessly vanishing and jumping high to the sky during in his fight with Tien. Tien, by the way, had previously beaten Cyborg Mercenary Tao, who was far stronger than his former human self, who could pierce Bora's chest with a spear - the same Bora who could tank machine gun fire and hold a Dragon Ball straight out of lava without getting a fifth-degree burn. In Z, power scales to earthquake-causing and planet-destroying levels, and it's hard to gauge this progression without starting from the lower levels of superhuman power in OG DB. For instance, Mercenary Tao bathed in boiling water, threw a pillar to travel 2,300 km (1,429 miles) to Korin's Tower in 15 minutes, and even deflected a sniper bullet with his shoe. And let's not forget how he killed Blue with just his tongue, after Blue survived jumping from his helicopter and swimming up from the ocean depths after an underwater cave collapse. Goku himself also swam across ocean to the other side of the world in the last minutes to not miss the World Martial Art Tournament, struck by lightning multiple times, and dodged lightning. These contexts are vital to witness beforehand before jumping into Z, where you only see Goku and Piccolo initially get bodied by Raditz, with the animation slowed down so us audience can see. This is why I always recommend people to watch OG before Z. Jumping straight into Z means missing big chunks of context and history behind Goku's journey and only seeing hyped fights with iconic villains and Super Saiyan transformations. It's a journey that starts with superhuman feats and grows into something much grander.
