I think it's important to realize what the death of Shenron means. Normally, dead people in the Dragon Ball series don't really matter, because you can always wish people back. You already know DBZ, so you know it will be reversed at some point somehow, but imagine how it felt for people who discovered the story in order: nobody can be resurrected anymore, Krilin, Roshi and Chiaozu are dead for good. The usual "cheat code" of that saga is gone. That episode changed everything.
