Had a tricky day. I'm really doubling down on Crash. I've been working on him for 4 months now and REALLY want to get him done before mid Feb (feb will be 5 months which is crazy for 1 project, almost half my years output).
Wanted/planned to get his teeth cast and installed today. The molds came out really well, but I found out that slush casting in a mold with a convex shape is REALLY hard. Trying to get the resin to coat the back of the teeth was super difficult, and used $80+ worth of resin for one attempt.
I thought they would come out great but they came out with a few big dimples at the front of the teeth. I checked the molds and the dimples weren't present there. Must have been an error on my part. Not really sure how it happened.
A bit saddening (wasting about 3 days work and a lot of $). It'd be more work for me to make the cast teeth usable compared to just painting the 3d printed teeth. I can't afford another batch of resin to try again.
The 3d printed teeth will physically and visually serve the same purpose as the cast set. But the cast version would have saved me a days work painting and sealing them white (since the cast would have been glossy white resin).
Anyway, trying to keep pushing on despite the setback. While painting the teeth I patterned and cut the fur for both his arms, which is exciting. I will continue to paint the teeth and seal them while I sew up the arm fur and start to attach it. I'll also start on his gloves which should be pretty much the same process to pattern.
