Oh man I've been having so much fun with this today.

I had sculpted the clay shoe shape a cpl days ago. I had printed that small sole to test the file originally. It's 1/4 the scale of the final shoe.

Yesterday I covered the clay in cling wrap, and a few layers of masking tape. Marking the seams, I carefully cut the tape apart and added darts etc to flatten the pieces. They were scanned and enlarged/printed at 400%.

I'm consistently blown away with how accurately this method replicates the original shape. All the subtle curves are there.

I have to alter the pattern a little bit so the bottom of the shoe contours better to the sole shape. It's a smidge too big but very close. The upper shoe will have more layers put on it with thinner foam, and each layer will be covered in different shades of red fabric.

I was lucky to find the 'laces' in the form of.. I think it's edging for cushions? Or strapping for beach bags. I bought the whole roll of it. It really looks like a giant lace and is the perfect size which makes me super happy.

I've sized and printed some tests for the.. silver circle pieces (idk what they are technically called) that the laces feed through. Got the size and shape right. I'm going to fill/sand/polish one of the rings and then make a few molds of it (it's tiny thankfully so wont use much silicone). Then I'll cast multiple versions in resin so they are all perfect. I need 16 of them! They need to be super polished for the metallic paint I'll be using on them.

Those things the shoelaces feed through are called Eyelets. Anyway, sounds really cool. Can't wait to see the finished shoe
