So got the furring 90% done on Trico, and immediately I got that niggling feeling that it was not ok haha. His head looked way to bulky and rounded.

After work I spent an hr or so bringing photos into photoshop and comparing the shapes and scale. Yep, too round at the top, and too wide, even trimming the fur as short as it would go.

With no hesitation I ripped, cut and scraped all the fur off. I don't care if this guy takes another month to finish, I've come too far to have him looking off. With the bare head I redid the redlining, and worked out how much bulk the fur adds (kept all the pieces).

Looks like I'll need to heat up the resin head, and bend the top and sides in a little. Just enough to compensate for the bulk of the fur. Definitely do-able, just frustrating to throw away another whole day's work.

Dang such an attention to detail. I never would have noticed that

Wow that fur makes him so poofy! Do you think maybe a short pile fur like minky would actually suitable in this situation? Normal furs have such a thick backing, you might get a slimmer fit and shorter fur that way. (Sorry if this is really silly and you already considered it aha)

Now that I think of it, minky Sean's are so obvious looking and less like a real fur hmm. Guess I can see why so many art dolls have entirely sculpted faces with a fur texture, even though I've never been too fond of the sculpted fur look, I can see why they do it lol. Is there any fur with thinner backing you can get maybe?

I actually switched to a much shorter pile than I used for the first attempt. It's not too bad, but yeah, definitely a challenge to work with the bulk. I've removed all his padding and reheated the head to push his cheeks and forehead inwards, so hopefully that will compensate
