Making good progress on Episode 10. I'm focusing heavily on the renders to get as much as possible done before I go on holiday late this month. That way the bulk of the renders will be done when I continue development in August.

I've also had the opportunity to buy new hardware. I'm now the proud owner of two NVidia RTX 3090 GPUs, which were out of stock for a good while.

As I'm not much of a hardware guy, I naively though the two cards would fit in my current case without any modifications. Turns out a dual setup gets extremely hot (the top card does, because it sucks in all the heat from the bottom one).

I took one of the cards out and I'm now rendering on a single 3090 while I wait for new hardware to arrive. I decided to bite the bullet and ordered parts for a new system, including a water cooling loop from Alphacool. Here are some of the specs for those interested:

Motherboard: MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 2 x 32GB 3600 Mhz
Storage: Samsung 980 PRO MZ-V8P2T0BW SSD
Storage: 2x WD Ultrastar DC HC330 WUS721010AL5204 10TB
GPU: 2x Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming OC 24G
PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra Platinum 1300
Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 1000D - Super-Tower

My current system with the 2080ti and Titan Xp will probably serve as a render machine for animations. It's probably going to take me a while to assemble this thing, but I'm already quite excited for someone who isn't really into hardware...

I'm not sure there's any other way with this setup and the load those cards will be under. Not going to rush this build and if all else fails I can ask an expert to complete it for me.

Using stock CPU heatsink/fan assembly? I'm always on the fence about that aspect of my new PC builds. Now that I see some motherboards have preinstalled IO shielding I need my next MB to have that. I hate installing those tin foil flimsy shields with the tabs that always get bent the wrong way while trying to jam the MB in there. It's a mess.

No, the whole thing will be watercooled. The motherboard wasn't in stock so I swapped it for the Gigabyte TRX40 AORUS XTREME and upgrade the CPU to a Threadripper.
