🍅💀🍅 🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼Should really watch everything.

GoatQI

Megitsune is like one of the most Babymetal songs ever.

Ramon Natividad

The band at the beginning was a track and the people in the skeleton suits were performers miming playing instruments

Jim Nusbaum

Legend IDZ are the earliest kind of real concerts, from 2012 and early 2013. Legend 1999 was done for Yui and Moa for their birth year earlier in 2013 (the same year as this concert). I would suggest skipping those for now and moving on but wouldn't complain if you did them.

s

Great reaction and thank you as always! You should definitely check out Yokohama 2015 it is in my opinion the best sounding concert they have. Besides that i cannot wait for you to witness the greatness that are the 2 tokyo dome nights in 2016! Edit: You pretty much finished everything related to first album but only thing worth noting would be the solo performance from yui and moa in the legend 1999 but i think it would be better if you do those as single songs (and i cant beg you enough to do yokohama 2015)

Jim Nusbaum

John have you heard that Babymetal will be hosting a festival - Fox Fest - in May? They will headline and Electric Callboy and Polyphia will support with more bands to be announced. We are all hoping for Polyphia to come on stage to perform in Brand New Day.

Jim Nusbaum

This concert documents Su's transformation from J-Pop idol to metal goddess.

Jim Nusbaum

Yes they are called Babybones. The dancers are Sisterbones. The main part of this concert was to a backing musical track. Su is definitely singing though except for Headbanger Night of 15 Remix.

Altraax

its nothing mom! You can watch the older Legend concerts but it will generally be more of what you've already seen. I think it would be good to move to the second album and keep things fresh. You can always double back if you feel like it. I'm looking forward to what you think about Tales of the Destinies, as it is my favorite babymetal song. They've only performed it once, at the Tokyo Dome show, so that will be a must-see. Edit: Somebody mentioned the Yokohama 2015 performance and I agree that you should see that before moving to the 2nd album.

Serega Molodets

yes Ledend IDZ and Legend 1999 are both awesome and important, and have few songs only performed once.

MacTaipan

The song after the first lore interlude is called „Tamashii no rufuran“. It‘s not an original BABYMETAL song, but a cover version of a song that was released in Su‘s birth year 1997. The original is featured in the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, and it‘s much slower. I actually prefer BABYMETAL‘s version, the vocals fit Su very well. To be honest, it‘s the only cover version they have have done that I like. I wasn‘t aware that you didn’t know this extended version of BABYMETAL DEATH. That‘s a cool scene to come across unprepared. :-) It‘s nothing, Mum!

Its nothing Mum ... that was fun! This whole concert was about them transitioning from a sub-unit of a JPop Idol group to becoming an independent metal band - even more than that is was about Suzuka Nakamoto giving up her life as a JPop Idol and her sacrificing her human existence to be reborn as the Metal Goddess SU-metal, chosen to lead the Metal Resistance. Legend 1997 was the final stage of their transition. The opening ceremony was making offerings of the neck braces to the Metal Goddess (the statue that looked suspiciously like Mary of course, but with oriental features), then to show their origins as a JPop Idol group sub-unit with the very obviously lip-synced Night of 15 dance remix of 'Headbanger'. They continued with the Babybones in their skeleton suits (they were not Kamis) miming the instrumentals for the first 9 songs of the concert ... then the final part of the transition started (I think you may have missed the lore introducing the Kamis of guitar bass and drums before 'Onedari Daisakusen') and the Kami Band came on to play live for the last 5 songs (apart from 'Akatsuki' unfinished version). Finally Su's sacrifice, receiving the sacred neck brace from the Metal Goddess and the castration ... oops - crucifixion to complete the transition. This was the last big show where the Babybones guys appeared (they did do a couple of concerts early in 2014, but the next big shows were the Budokan Red and Black Nights that were announced at the end and that was where the Kami Band became the full time support for all live shows).

Su's solo that you didn't recognise was a one-off cover of 'Tamashii No Rufuran' - it came from the anime(?) Evangelion and was a huge hit in Japan in 1997. Legends I, D and Z were their first 'big' solo shows (their first solo show was the Corset/neck brace Legend at Rok May Kan - a venue with a 150 capacity) where they debuted 'Headbanger', all performed while they were still a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin. Legend I (6th Oct 2012) was significant as being the very first appearance of the Kami Band (different members to the ones you know) where they played the two encore songs ('Headbanger' and 'IDZ). I think they did two shows in one day, a matinee and an afternoon or evening show (they didn't have lots of songs at the time) Legend D was on 20th Dec 2012 - Su-metal's 15th birthday and the only other time they performed the Night of 15 Remix of 'Headbanger'. No Kami Band in this one I think. Legend Z was the last show they did as a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin before Su-metal's graduation in March 2013 and BABYMETAL's split from SG. Legend 1999 was 30th June 2013, right between Yui's and Moa's 14th birthdays ... of course they were both born in 1999.

Reconbbs Bsb

Totally not a cult. LOL

Henrik G. F. Mikkelsen

It really is nothing, mom. I recommend Legend Metal Galaxy. Each day has its own Kami Band, but Ending out both days, we are blessed with both Kami bands, and all the different Avengers. It's beyond epic! 🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻

Giulio Colzani

Definitely, after Metal Resistance album, Tokyo Dome both Red and Black Night. In Red Night their masterpiece Tale of the Destinies only once performed live.

Ganimal

ITS NOTHING MOM!!! Haha Great reaction, this is one hell of a show. Legend 1997’s theme is Babymetal’s transition from pop idols into a full fledged metal band, coinciding with them splitting from Sakura Gakuin and becoming an independent act earlier same year (2013). Starts with an EDM headbanger fully lip-sync’ed “like many pop groups”, then gradually gets heavier until Kami Band and the most insanely brutal, dark, and metal closer I’ve seen. I also suggest moving on to 2nd album review. The other shows (Legend I, D, Z, and 1999) will repeat almost the same setlist outside of a few covers by Yui, Moa, and Su, as it’s super early in their career. Still worth a watch, but perhaps later on. You should definitely do Wembley 2016, followed by Tokyo Dome both nights for the concerts to go with 2nd album. In addition, here is a lore guide: Part 1: https://youtu.be/0cBXH0Aec6M?si=-k-1tz8LPSkYVyQh Part 2: https://youtu.be/4ys78F3BWSg?si=8W4Hj5pkORTF1Yq8 Not sure if there are better lore guides, maybe other kitsunes can suggest some if so! Cheers! 🤘🦊

NoTime4Dudes

I'd vote Legend 1999 before you move on. You get to see some Yui and Moa solo covers. That is fun. and one metal resistance song No Rain, No Rainbows.

Einar Ingvarsson

Another possibility would be to react to a few interviews / TV appearences from the early years. There's the interview with Su to promote the Megitsune single: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91miSpVBYO8 And the interview with Su and Moa on Oriental Radio to promote iine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Whqvd_lTOBE (part 1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Whqvd_lTOBE (part 2) And the memorable appearance on Music Dragon, where Yui really shines: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FcQTghXWr8 Of course, these are more for fun than for serious info, but Babymetal is all about fun, right?

BEBIMETARU_BIO-METAL

It's nothing mom!! Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments. The previous shows are good, like Legend 1999, but you are fine skippin them. Since you already watched Budokan 2014 and the best show of 2015, I suggest you to react directly to the second album Metal Resistance! After that there are a couple of unmissable shows: Wembley 2016 and Tokyo Dome 2016 (red and black nights, chronologically of course). DON'T MISS THEM PLEAAAAASE!! I'm loving your journey <3

GratefulAmerican

It's nothing mom. I am always astounded by the maturity, discipline, talent, stage presence and overall personalities of these young ladies at such a young age. Up till now I had only seen separate performances of these songs but never start to finish. Wow just wow.

Cosmo Reverb

I swear its nothing mom!

Ganimal

Agreed, but yes, after 3rd album review, and after Legend-M for Moa's special!

John McCabe

What! No, it's nothing Mom...I swear! LOL!! Kickass way to end a show! Everyone in attendance must have slept for three days to rest after that one!

Rob C

It's nothing mom. Great reaction

Len Cooke

Wow, I am late to the party, sorry but I have been in Kalimantan; long story. I thought there would be hundreds of long posts about this concert. You have probably already found out from other sources, but this concert served two functions: First it was to celebrate Sue's 16th birthday (which was the day after the concert). Second, the whole concert was designed to encompass the transition of Suzuka Nakamoto (the pop idol), abandoning her human life to become a goddess of metal. This is why there was the Techno/lip synched/fake band opening to the concert. Babymetal were already playing with the live Kami Band before this concert, however, the concert was to show how far Babymetal had come since their creation. And to create some lore. The opening of the concert showed Babymetal's lip-syncing JPop beginnings, while the final song showed Suzuka Nakamoto giving up her mortal life to become Su Metal, a goddess of metal. This wasn't in an accurate timeline of when this transition happened, Su was already known as Su Metal before this concert, however, it is more a performance depicting how this transformation occurred. John, your reaction to this concert was ... simply brilliant. I appreciate the reactions you do. I normally stay quiet in comments but felt I should say something here. Thanks for reacting to so many great bands, take care and stay safe.

Len Cooke

oh, and it's nothing Mom.
