Ok so first, sorry for the camera acting crazy on this one!

But also!

I love seeing more of the writing process for both Jimin and V here, Seeing how INSANE the stage crew is with their live shows! ( they literally saved the day! ) and I'm asking a question at the very end!

Hope you're all having an amazing week so far!

Jin talks about it the most, but Jimin and Yoongi have also alluded to it. Before they became really popular and famous, they were friends with a lot of their fellow idols, but as they became more and more popular, a lot of those friendships seem to fade. Not all of them but a lot. I think it's one thing to be in the field and on an even level or have BTS be less popular, but once they blew up and your band is breaking up or losing popularity? That's not easy. And because they are so famous, known friends of BTS members get asked about their friend on their lives, interviews, etc. I think that makes the dynamic awkward. I think that's one of the reasons why most of Jin and Tae's celebrity friends are chefs, actors, rappers, etc. and just in another field or genre than them. I think it's hard for them to live normal lives because of fansites and paparazzi stalk them and get their phone number and everything. But we rarely see the members when they're with their families are in their hometowns. So I think it's hard to Seoul but easier outside it. I think it's like celebrities who live in NYC or LA and how they're in magazines all the time, but once they move to the country, it's easier for them to just be people.

Hi john. Thank you again for this great reaction. You have made my day so much better

No, I don’t think if they didn’t have the cameras or entourage they’d be able to live normal lives. Fan culture can be rather extreme, especially in places like Korea and China. There are a lot of stalker fans. You mentioned public transportation. Namjoon likes to take it sometimes, but as we just found out the other day, an employee at Korail (Korean Rail) had been accessing his personal information for the last few years and even monitoring when he would book a ticket so they could tell their friends (and book tickets for the same train). They accessed his phone number, his home address - all of which is information they can sell to stalkers. A couple of months ago, RM went to a Buddhist temple to discuss his worries and the Monk then proceeded to tell the media about it. This is what it’s like for them, always. BTS is one of the biggest names in Korea. People use their jobs to get information on them, people know where they live. People have even gotten jobs at BigHit before to try and get close to the members/know things about them/sell their schedule information. People get their hotel room information and call them non-stop. Whether there are cameras or entourages etc., doesn’t really make a difference. They’ll always have to deal with invasions to their privacy. Sometimes they’ll be at a place and people will actually respect them enough to not report on it or follow them around, but they’re never truly left alone. In Korea, there are Saesangs who literally dedicate all of their time to stalking their favorite celebrities. There’s a lot of craziness and I’m sure it’s a lot for them to deal with. There’s probably a lot more involving that, that we don’t even know about, but since their privacy is constantly violated even when they’re not on the job, no, I don’t think they could ever just live as regular people. At least not at this stage of their career/life.

2023-05-12 23:44:15 I do not think they are able to have normal lives nor do I think they ever will be, sadly. I wish they could. Back in the summer Jungkook went to Seventeen’s concert in Seoul. One of his best defied a is part of Seventeen & he’s friends with a few other members. He had other friends who were also at the concert who are also famous but not as famous as him. He couldn’t even sit with his friends who were in VIP are but still in the main seating area. JK was literally up in a sky box by himself with a body guard the concert. He still looked to enjoy the concert….sang a long & danced but it was so sad to me to see him up in that box by himself with a security guard standing to the side. They have all talked about having to change their phone numbers frequently. Back around Christmas Jin told JK he didn’t have his phone numbers because he changed it so often. He’s changing it because people are getting it. When he went to the US to film the left & right music video it was supposed to be a surprise. He flew into LA & then to NYC. No one was supposed to know he was flying to NYC but somehow some fans bought that information & were at the airport chasing him. He looked surprised & the security looked unprepared for it. The ones that scare me the most aren’t media, it’s the fans. They are they ones that will crowd them & chase them. I’m sure there are some bad characters in the media also. Did you see the news this week about the Rail employee accessing Namjoon’s personal information for 3 years & selling it? Including his address, his coming & goings on public transportation. This is the kind of thing they deal with all the time. There are so many more examples. I hate it for them. Truly hate it. They deserve so much better & deserve to live their life in peace exactly as they want to. But I don’t know what the solutions are.

2023-05-12 23:44:16 I will also add to this. Jungkook is friends with idols. He has a friend group of other idols but you will rarely see him talk about them or take pictures with them & that is largely because of the drama with fan groups. It’s not the idols it’s the fans. JK is close friends with a popular idol in NCT some 14 year old in China spread rumors about JK on the internet. Awful criminal rumors that were completely untrue. The kid was sued by Bighit for it. But he was a huge fan of NCT & didn’t like them being friends. During Covid JK went out one night with his friend….same guy from NCT, friend from Seventeen, friend from Astro. South Korea was NOT in a lockdown at the time but an outbreak of Covid happened shortly after. They were dogged in the media & by the public for going out. All had to make public apologies but JK bore the brunt of it because he was the most famous. People said he was a terrible influence on the other ones because they went out in a non lockdown. JK went radio silent for awhile. I think he learned his lesson. He seems to still be friends with them people occasionally say they saw them together at a restaurant but he doesn’t say a word about them publicly. Every single thing they do is highly scrutinized & made public. Everything. He deleted his Instagram because he said he never used it (which he doesn’t). There are tons of news articles on him deleting his Instagram & people trying to guess why even though he already said why. It is crazy!! I am not young by any means & American. We have tons of celebrities here & I’ve never seen anything like the scrutiny they are under.

I suspect it's a challenge for them to live normal lives the way we think of it. But I think where they go also makes a difference. When Jin was filming his Traditional Korean Alcohol journey, he went to a market with Chef Baek. Jin was largely ignored, while Chef Baek was asked for photos and autographs. Jin was amused and said it had been a long time since he had been unknown in public like that. There is a lot about their lives we don't see, and in those periods, and hopefully they have some normalcy in those moments.

Also, I was waiting to see your reaction to the staff literally holding up the stage while they performed. The danger they were all in, and yet nobody hesitated. It's the literal representation of how much the staff holds them up. BTS never forgets to thank their staff either. Their relationship is honestly incredible.

There is too much focus on the paparazzi culture in too many countries for them to truly be free, I think. Which is sad, they deserve that and I hope they have spaces that are supportive of their privacy! Love watching this series with you, this episode the staff were the real MVP's- literally holding them up for ARMY!

SueBee

No, unfortunately not. I think it’s probably easier in a city like nyc where the tendency is if you see a celeb, just to kind of nod in acknowledgment. Maybe a quick “I loved your work in x” in passing. Unfortunately, it’s really easy to send a tweet if you see them somewhere and then others in the area swarm. Or you see a few people taking photos outside of a store and you go to see what’s up and it grows from there, For quite awhile there was kind of a pact amongst ARMY that when the guys were on personal time, you left them alone. Heck, all the NZ ARMY managed to keep Bon Voyage a secret even though they knew they were there. I think as the fandom has grown, that has probably gone by the wayside. And I see your point about entourage and bodyguards, but unfortunately security is necessary especially for certain members. The bodyguards will be a lot less noticeable out and about (like in the apple store) as they are probably dressed casually. If you pay close attention, you’ll be able to see the constant risk assessment happening though they look unbothered. Airport and other official function? You bet they are dressed to intimidate and have a much more intense demeanor. I worked in a box office when a bit time celeb at the time was performing. She had a stalker and other obsessive fans. Her security guard would check in with us every night for anything odd along with getting their seat numbers. He always had already pegged the person each time. He was fascinating to watch. His body language was casual, but his eyes were constantly scanning. Intense mode kicked in getting her from the car to the stage door and vice versa. On a lighter note - it’s the vmin cotton candy era!
