Welcome to the 'Bakery Bears Radio Show' Episode 63

We return with our latest Radio Show and this time we are talking about trying something new. Is the old saying 'you cant teach an old dog new tricks' true? Is it possible to learn a new skill as you get a little older is the question. In todays show we tackle that subject head on. Along the way we talk about Dan's teaching experiences, Kays new hand embroidery passion and we discover that Kay also has a hidden desire to learn to sing!!

Join Kay & Dan as they:

  • Talk about the benefits of learning something new on general mental health and well being
  • Tell the story of how Dan came to be teaching his brother Dom to play the drums
  • Discuss the new experiences Kay has had this year learning to hand embroider
  • Mention our Stitching University Course which commences on the 7th July 2022 find out more about it here https://www.patreon.com/posts/66040261
  • Talk about Kays experiences with cross stitching
  • Discuss Dan’s love of sailing
  • Talk through new things they would each like to try in the coming years
  • Mention a recent article that Dan wrote in this issue of Knitability https://www.patreon.com/posts/57591262

We'll be back in two weeks with our next 'Radio Show'!

I've been listening to you two since the beginning and never guessed it was Kay singing. Bravo!

Hi! It isn’t Kay singing, Kay really wants to learn. The wonderful lady singing is Jamie Gangi who is also a Patron! Best wishes, Dan

My high school band director always said practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent. He was the only person I've heard say that until now. For practice to make improvements, it has to be intentional and thoughtful or you just make a habit of the same mistakes. My tai chi instructor was saying that learning helps prevent dementia because it keeps the brain elastic by creating new pathways so even doing things different from the way you normally do them can be helpful, like brushing your teeth with your non-dominant hand periodically. So I would imagine that relearning something after a long time would still be helpful since you'd be reestablishing those pathways.
