We should rename it really 'nana cast on' as my nana taught me that way too. I also always knit the first row through the back loop. I think slip the first stitch and knit\purl into the back of the last. :)

I was taught this cast on at school, i was also taught to knit into the back of each stitch as I cast this on. I use this for every thing I knit
