Welcome to our ’Reviews’ collection.

Back in 2017 Kay produced a video showing you how a range of socks, knitted in lots of different yarns actually wore. It turned out to be one of our most popular 'Patron Exclusive' videos. Today Kay returns with a follow up to that video.

Join Kay as she:

  • Looks at range of socks worn over a number of different time periods to compare how they have worn

  • Analyses common wearing patterns and talks through if they could be avoided

  • Discusses how each pair of the socks has been washed and dried

  • Takes a close look at how each yarn colourway has performed after washing multiple times

  • Talks through yarn bases and identifies her favourite for socks

I really loved the first episode you did on this topic Kay. And I have loved this one just as much ... :) Such a brilliant topic to explore and so fascinating to see the real world results from beloved socks which have been so well worn and washed. 🧦✨🧶 I am very interested to see that wear through on the ball on the foot - that is where we get it in our home too. I have wondered whether there is there any point in reinforcing the sock there at the point of knitting do you think? Have you ever experimented with this? Sometimes I wonder whether I should hold the yarn double over the ball to make that area thicker and sturdier. There would be gauge to consider. However I have wondered whether the yarn being heavier in that section might create its own tension points and tears perhaps on the border of moving to the yarn held double? I also see some patterns with ribbing across the ball - and I have wondered whether this is for aesthetics, fit or perhaps to assist wear? Anyway, if anyone in the BB crew has done some experimenting with additional reinforcement to well worn areas during the knitting process I would be very interested to know what you tried, and whether it succeeded or whether it created its own problems... Mostly though... I just wanted to say thank you so much Kay for a really fascinating and interesting episode .. 😊💐

I have socks that I wear all the time, Paton's Kroy - no pilling, no wear, no felting, no holes. I wash in the machine, but always air dry. Kay, I don't know if you've ever knit with this brand, but would love to see how they hold up for Bryony!
