This season is going to blow your mind. The shower fight scene was originally filmed in more of a oner, and the editing in post dialed it to 11 on the Amos scale. Then you get the Avasrala scene lol!

Per the S4E5 episode "Oppressor" when Naomi was talking to Lucia on the Roci about Naomi's past. Naomi said she was young and in love with a boy who had a 'crazy plan'. She'd hack reactor control programs, he would insert them into ships. They'd turn off the drive and rescue them later. Or at least that was the plan....The first one they tried was the "Augustin Gamarra" which blew up in the docks at Luna (because Marco overloaded the reactor on it) which is why there is a memorial there and a crater looking thing with the hologram over it.

I always had a bit of a soft spot for Monica in the books. OK, she's a bit annoying and obsessed with her own celebrity and getting a story, but her heart's generally in the right place.

This season dropped in the end of 2020 and boy did we need it by then!! Three episodes dropped all at once and then the rest came out weekly after that. (you will soon see why). It was a long wait while Marco's rocks were flying by the sun (cool sequence at the beginning but yeah, Filip is pretty messed up). The books tell us that when he stole the stealth tech from Mars (slightly different circumstances) he was 15, so I think the show is trying to say he is in the 16 - 17 yr old range but that is just a guess.

So much to say here. And yes, I'm among those who've been waiting for us to collectively get to this point in the show. Right away, this season feels different. It took me a while to pin it down, but you've nailed it with your observations on some of the scenes. This season felt like cinema, not a show. Look at the drawn out scenes, setting up the different storylines, how the music was beautifully integrated into all of it...this was just a different season. One can make arguments for how to divide up the episodes into 3 acts (though Act I is pretty obvious), or make an argument for a 10-act movie. Either way works. Steven Strait I think was really underrated for his performances. I loved watching his scene with Monica. He didn't need to respond to her trying to get reactions. Other actors could have played it that way. He was a cool customer, and it made me think about other series moments where he's been the same way. Holy smokes, you nailed the casting of Filip. As did the casting director. If you look at the actors of Naomi and Marcos, they seriously found someone who likes like they were 100% their kid. Amos...two scenes, two gold mines. There's so much more to get into, but we don't need a novel now, and we'll have more to discuss along the way. Awesome start to the season! And yes, someone else pointed it out, but Amos commandeering Murtry's duffel bag is a great touch!

"Never split the party!" "Fuckin' bards!" - Oh man, you are in for a ride this season, it is going to be something else even by Expanse standards. This was the first season I watched live because I first saw this show when I binged it during the beginning of the pandemic, so this is a very memorable season for me personally for a whole host of reasons. All that character work in Season 4 (1-3 too, but especially 4) is about to pay off in a major way. Get ready for the juice. Re. that scene with Jim in the Roci, that was just the show drawing attention to how alone he is on Tycho and, as you say, how the main characters are spread out across the system. I'm sure it's not really important or anything. :-)

About to watch this and sync up on my end but just a thought for the youtube reupload issue - someone else I was watching just got done with the show after season 6 this last week and found success in preventing having to re-upload these later seasons by blurring the video feed slightly, and additionally sometimes putting a somewhat transparent black bar over the video feed when it is up such that you can still see the clip, but its darkened a bit. This seemed to be enough to throw off the B.S. autodetection crap for him

This is a really exciting season. As Miller would say, "Shit has a way of finding you kid." only this would apply equally to just about all the characters. Going to be a great season for watching Greg swear when an episode ends.

Filip is 15 years old in the book (the book version of this episode's opening scene mentioned that it was his 15th birthday). However, the show never specifies his age. He is definitely written to be a bit older in the show, and according to Ty in the Ty & That Guy podcast, is approximately 17-18 in the show. That would have been my guess as well. They likely aged him up because they really liked Jasai-Chase Owens for the part, who was in his early 20s when he was cast. Not only is he excellent as Filip, but as you noted, he also looks incredibly similar to Dominique Tipper. They really do look related. I actually met him briefly at an event where they were showing off The Expanse Telltale game. He's a really nice guy. It took me a second to get used to his real life non-Belter accent lol.

IIRC, in the book Filip steals the tech when he's 15, but in the current time frame in book 5 he's older. As in he stole the tech two years ago

Yeah, I never disliked her, she would just be annoying sometimes when she would get way to close into people’s space 😂 But, she just gets super enthusiastic when she’s onto a good story.
