So like, the general plot between Starblazers and Starblazers 2199 is the same, but the moment to moment intensity of 2199 isn't quite there in the original. The original really has a 1970s cheesiness and lighter tone, and while is still great, you don't quite feel the weight and gravity of the situation the same you do with the remake. 2199 feels like a show for people who loved Starblazers as kids, but are grownups now, if that makes sense. The differences are sort of akin to Battlestar Galactica 1978 vs Battlestar Galactica 2003/2005.
