Hands down one of my favorite Robotech episodes. Really, really enjoying Southern Cross when I was fully prepared to grit my teeth and soldier through it :D So far its awesome!

I loooove that. This is my wife's favourite arc of the series, and I was worried you wouldn't like it! I had the experience in high school of introducing Robotech to a close friend, and he absolutely loved it at first, but bailed on about episode 3 of the Masters saga!

In Robotech II The Sentinels, you see Exedore and Southern Cross Supreme Commander Anatole Eli Leonard argue. Exedore says the Earth will be safe from attack since the war will be fought on Tirol. Anatole Eli Leonard says "I don't share the Ambassador's optimism. If the REF takes the fleet the earth will be defenseless!" Rick even mentions he's worried this is a gamble because if they're wrong then the Earth will be vulnerable. The Army of the Southern Cross was left with mostly children (at the time, soldiers now) and cheaper inferior equipment when the REF left. As you saw in Sentinels, the Masters passed the REF to Earth and now Rick Hunter's REF is on Tirol dragged into a war against the Invid King so they can't return. (The canceled Sentinels Series was going to be 85 episodes of the REF at war with the Invid King. Something mentioned regularly throughout the series but never shown unfortunately)

Your comments about the display screens made me chuckle because most TV shows and movies with custom UI elements always have stuff like that. Maybe not as extreme as NO ESCAPE but it’s like some nerd created something for every single edge case. 😆 Glad you’re enjoying this series so far, IMO it only gets better from here.

MASTERS/SOUTHERN CROSS is the underappreciated/underrated "middle child" of ROBOTECH. Sandwiched between THE MACROSS SAGA and the also popular NEW GENERATION segment, it was, in some ways, at a disadvantageous position in terms of placement. However, it does stand well on its own and time has uncovered its strengths. I think MASTERS is a chapter that is better appreciated by adult audiences than by children or adolescents.
