Watch it when you want, but you're officially out of the woods for spoilers in the OP, there's a hint in there but it only really is noticeable to people who've read the manhwa since it references a noteable panel from one of the most hyped early events but you gotta know the event to get anything from it that could "spoil" you.

I mean there is no simple way to depict him looking physically stronger without going this route, unless you want to be more unrealistic in the way his new strength shows physically. It ends up looking more generic simply because he has the more stereotypical protag look. Idk, its hard to say how they could have showed that any differently without simply not doing it at all and having the str increase just be more "Magical".

I'd suggest trying good writing instead, which is nowhere to be found in this anime so far. The generic look of the MC is a perfect match for the show IMO.

Wasn't. Berserk is the only manga I own. I usually jump straight to the anime. I wanted to give it a chance but if that will be the case, I might just drop it now. I'm currently watching Made in Abyss and Dororo as well and boy do they put this to shame. They make me wonder why I'm still wasting my time with it. You can't trust other people's hype...

It aint exactly trying to be deep, it's just a shitload of fun is all. Solo leveling sets out to be cool as fuck and look amazing, and that's about it. There's a story, sure, and it's not a bad one per se, but it's not the main reason most people love it. But I get that's not everyone's cup of tea, and that's fine. Just know it was never trying to be what you seem to have expected from it. Anywho, have a great time nonetheless, and I do hope there's something else for you this year!

it is a masterpiece, but not an anime masterpiece. it's a power fantasy masterpiece, so if you don't like power fantasy you are not gonna like solo leveling.

It's SAO for the next generation, essentially. Power fantasies where the MC is strong and virtuous and gets the attention of others for how nice and powerful they are, sell a lot. Then pair that with a world that operates on MMO logic and, assuming the art is appealing and it has a strong start that pulls people in (like SAO and now Solo Leveling), it'll be a hit. No, I'm not eternally spiteful that these types of things took the spotlight away from .hack, why would you ever say that?

Yeah I definitely saw the SAO similitude too. He's basically tall Kirito. I definitely won't like it later either. I was looking for a good story with well written characters (decently at least) not to self-insert myself in a D&D wet dream where I turn out to become a hyper mega ultra chad. I'll drop it and leave it to those who enjoy that, definitely not my thing.

"well-written" is a weasel word used by people who don't know how to write. also, what do you think humanity's oldest story is? the most ancient forms of literature are epic poems. the epic of gilgamesh is in so many ways a power fantasy, because power is an atavistic language. that's a crude representation of it, but one that's apt here in all the important ways. seriously. you guys are like... the kinds of chefs that gordon ramsay destroys on the regular. too insecure in one's ability that they have to see more ingredients on the plate to think something is quality. really irritates me. even worse is the "i only read masterpieces" starter pack. it's taste driven so much by a desire to signal literariness it's disgusting to me.
