Weird after rewatching how much I missed on detailed info. Only now I realized the reason for Black Beard going after luffy wasn't just for his bounty money, but to make a name for himself as a candidate for the position of one of the 7 warlords that his mime friend mentioned his plan was at the meeting with all those old dudes and other warlord. And that was to take out someone with a high bounty
