I think it's interesting to think about the difference in the way the events happen between mediums, like the flow of events is different if they go from escaping Smoker in the storm and keep running until they reach Reverse Mountain, without the anime-only events, and the manga starts not with Luffy in the barrel with Coby but back with small Luffy and Shanks, and I think the show is stronger for doing that, and for me it's impossible to discount the events of the "filler" as irrelevant or "not canon" because a canon is just a version of a story, for example the 4 gospels in the Christian bible are four different stories of the same events and no one is making Oda pick one, is this a bad metaphor? lol

When you mention Luffy's talent for understanding creatures It just dawned on me that even though this is filler that Oda really setup so much about Luffy earlier than most think. Watching this filler after being caught up is kinda surreal. I feel like laughing and crying at the same time

Canon is an important term In One Piece because so much is interconnected that the anime itself doesn't always tell a coherent story. A very good example is this filler arc which is completely forgotten in a later episode.

I remember reading in twitch chat that it might be Crunchyroll that doesn't work well with streaming live. People also said that One Piece should be on Netflix, but I don't know if that's the case, however if it's true you could use that as a backup option. If you want to see the movies, I believe now you can see the second movie which is called "Clockwork Island Adventure". If you can, I also recommend the short "Jango's Dance Carnival". It's a 5 mins short that aired as a bonus with the second movie. It's also very funny. I seem to understand that you don't like to pirate content, so I'm not sure if you can find it on streaming services, but if your issue is only using pirate sites, I could send you the actual file or you can download it easily as a torrent (try nyaa torrents).

I mean, you are free to believe what you want, but people tend to read too much in every single detail. Even more so for a filler arc... there is nothing set up here by Oda. People like to always exaggerate the fact that the anime staff checks with him about new DF powers to make it seems that everything that happens in the fillers is implicitly a hidden clue. By Oda own admissions, while the end never changed in his mind, the story that was supposed to last a few years went through major changes and many more things were added along the way.

It was an interesting experience watching the filler again after over a decade. Though it was greatly affected by me constantly judging it based on what I know of the series canon. It did definitely feel like One Piece but it's of a jigsaw puzzle that actually belongs to another, similar set or something. I also hate it when they try to bake canon stuff into filler, kinda ruins some of the experience the second time around. Although newcomers will be kept guessing which elements of the filler do and don't exist, if they are aware it's filler in the first place. I myself was so young that I didn't know filler existed.

How so? There's literally no context besides her own question and the existence of Millennial Dragons. And I think the idea of Luffy being part non-human is a fascinating idea.
