Became a patron just for early access to this episode. My reaction was similar; I’d already been spoiled about Reiner and Bertoldt, but I still had to pick my jaw up off the floor from the casual way they revealed it.

Half way through season 2 and even though it's the shortest season it's so packed with crazy events and reveals that it really never gets a chance to slow down.

Knowing what happens/gets revealed in later seasons, everything Reiner says here becomes really tragic. As messed up as he is and as wrong as his actions are, I genuinely do have sympathy for him.

The reveal was actually just as nonchalant in the manga as well XD Most of the panel was taken up by Hange and the rest discussing irrelevant stuff, with the "I'm the armored titan" speech bubble from Reiner off on the far right-hand-side of the panel, coming almost from off-screen. That being said, the anime did so much justice to this scene by making it ten times more suspenseful. With a manga you dictate the pace yourself, so the scene can go by really quickly, but with the anime they take the time to build up the suspense to a crescendo so it always feels like something's off, but the twist is still just as shocking somehow

To be fair, Reiner wasn't really threatening Eren. It wasn't "Come with us or else we will destroy more walls", it was "Come with us so we don't have to destroy more walls." He seemed like he was just looking forward to being done with this stuff.

Yeah, Reiner wanted Eren to come with them to their hometown, with no threats. But it wasn't gonna be easy to get him to come along.
