Ok, so the original plan when the manga was coming out was for Avdol to actually stay dead, but since the readers liked him so much Araki brought him back, in fact in the original manga panels you can actually see blood come out of the back of Avdol's head from an exit wound. So that's why the explanation as to why they all just lied to Polnareff feels so weird and out of character (at least to me), because this was not the original plan.

Araki said in one of the JoJonium plans that Abdul's death was never intended to be permanent. He just wanted a death early on so it would set in how dangerous the journey is but would bring him back later. So if anything, he probably changed his mind about him being dead. Maybe at first the plan was for him to literally get resurrected.

Oh that's interesting. It just feels kinda slapdash to me how they bring him back, and I never liked how assholeish it makes the rest of the crew feel for watching Polnareff grieve and mourn for weeks while they're all like "he's still alive lmao"

I remember missing the subtitles saying that Avdol was disguised as his "dad" and immediately said to my friend: yo but what about avdols dad tho?? and wondered for the entire show why they never mentioned or showed him again.
