Oh boy. Happy you made it through the movies, this is my least favorite movie…maybe ever

NoPointToTry

Love the reactions!Comment❤

MrGuy3000

We made it through the movies!! Congrats!! Bout time for the shows now baby! the BIG THREE IMO Andor (the best imo) Clone wars (very close second) Rebels

Rowdeemunkee

I miiiiight just watch the youtube version of this one.

Robert Collard

Somehow, Alicia got through this movie

The_ToG

I'm glad you didn't skip the sequels Alicia. As much as I hated the Sequels myself, I always believed in people forming their own opinions on such things because it's what creates lively debates on why people liked or disliked something.

Danny boy

If you ever rewatch the movies on your own time, i highly recommend machete order. it goes episode 4-5, then rewind to the prequel trilogy as it will act as a giant flashback.(some people skip 1) Then you end the saga on 6. it makes the anakin force ghost scene so much more powerful, same with lukes scenes with vader.

Salmonero

Now if we could get some Mandalorian.. that would be amazing! Alicia is not ready for the peak and the absolute cuteness overload ☺️

Shino302

I promised myself I would never watch this movie again but hope you had fun

Vendacator

Here we are... at this painful sight, but I hope you had fun on the 2/3 of the ride! Or all of it!

mykanike

Respectfully I'm going to slide you a like and keep it pushing. I can't watch this movie without risking popping a blood vessel.

Ok

No one talks about solo. 😆 I recommend avoiding it because it spoils something from somewhere else.

Mister Taffy

Went through the entire train wreck I see...

Fappy Entertainment

“Ray skywalker” Literally walked out of the theater after that.

Sancturillore -- Élie Simard-Wallot

It's not that the first guy didn't care about what the second guy planned. It's the opposite. The first guy (JJ Abram) (director of Lost) only made set up without deciding on what any of the reveal would be. Then the second guy (Rian) decided to go against all of the set up instead of building on it, and do his own thing, with torch earth tactics. Without caring about how the story could develop from the second movie into the third one. That's why when Disney decided to have the first guy come back to direct the 3rd movie, he had to make do with the ashes left by Rian's movie. And the first guy has always been bad at making satisfying endings to set ups(prime example being Lost). So of course he was bad at making an ending to the ashes of his own set ups and to the set ups built by Rian in the second movie.

Trey Goldsworthy

Hopefully we can get to The Clone Wars soon.

Jaffar Black Fang

You know to quote Red letter media "Each movie basically retcons the last one in this trilogy" man Disney has really screwed this series bad. Also please watch both the 2D and 3D clone wars they are both good

DRedd

Gotta call bull on that. Literally called damn near *all* of Last Jedi back in April 2016 based on what had been set up in Awakens. All of the major plot beats. The only things I missed were from new characters. It was all there, some people just didn't like it.

DRedd

The film that brought the Star Wars fandom back together. Because whether you loved Last Jedi or hated Last Jedi no one liked this.

BreadCEO

I still feel like Ryan completely killed Lukes character, the whole murdering your student in his sleep and then turning into a depressed hermit really doesn't fit Luke at all.

Oh! That Robin

I don’t hate this movie like most people do, but I think it is definitely the weakest. I mean, hey, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad 😅 On a much more positive note omg omg I am so ready for Clone Wars, it is my favorite Star Wars *thing* out there ever made, though Rebels and Andor come close.

vincent shiflett

FYI you had to play fortnite to find out the message of palpatine's return. it was a stupid marketing move.

Patrick Waldeck

I will defend TLJ to my dying day but I kinda hate the hell out of this movie. It's plot is so ridiculous disjointed.

Sancturillore -- Élie Simard-Wallot

DRedd, so you called Luke's character being destroyed, the hyperspace lore being broken, Rey's parentage being thrown to the side in the garbage (as per TLJ), Finn becoming a pointless sideline character, Snoke(the new big bad) getting killed anticlimactically one movie before the finale of the sequel trilogy, etc.? Damn, you must be a prophet.

Rx1867

Rise of Skywalker is what clinched my opinion that J.J. Abrams killed the sequels with The Force Awakens. When The Force Awakens came out, people called it a rehash of A New Hope, but justified it saying Abrams had to show he could make a "real" Star Wars movies after how poorly received the prequels were. Rise of Skywalker is nothing but the most glaring flaws of The Force Awakens, a barren artistic wasteland utterly devoid of imagination or creativity that exists solely as a desperate appeal to nostalgia completely divorced from anything remotely resembling storytelling and wrapped up in terrible editing and pacing. Where The Last Jedi explored what it meant for the Force to bind all things together, refuted the millennia-long battle between the Jedi and the Sith, questioned the nature of the Force, confronted the fact that Luke always had the potential to fall to the Dark Side just like Darth Vader always had the potential to return to the Light Side depending on their respective choices, promised that a random kid abandoned by her deadbeat parents could still become a hero, and called out the characters and the audience for clinging to an ancient idea of Star Wars that hadn't evolved with the times, all Rise of Skywalker has to offer is the bluntest, most superficial, most incurious, most utterly disinterested insight into the Force it could (barely) formulate. You do not matter to the Force unless you have the right genes. You do not matter to the Force unless you have the right name. Your personal relationships and connections with others do not matter unless they are specifically ordained by the Force with some super-special bond. You have no personal moral agency, as the Force makes your moral decisions for you. If you're indoctrinated into a fascist military organization as a child soldier and you refuse an order to massacre civilians, it's not because of your capacity to heal from your trauma, recognize that harming others is wrong, and make your own decision not to follow orders, it's because the Force told you what to do. Finn deserved better. He deserved to hook up with Poe, those dudes had better sexual chemistry than Han and Leia ever did.

BewearKing64

Fucking haaaaaaaate this movie.....

dragon emperor ry

Praise the force you got through this slip and now true peak begins clone wars baby let's go can guarantee that is gonna be your favorite version of Star wars by the end it does so much right and makes you love the characters so much I can't wait

Rubi_pica

Congrats on finishing all the main films! This one was definitely rough but it was fun to watch you guys experience it, can't wait for clone wars I recommend you do it in chronological order!

Ellerian

kinda surprised they skipped Solo lmao, considering how much Alicia liked and missed Han i mean public opinion doesnt like the movie but i thought it was pretty fun

Ellerian

the sequel trilogy in a nutshell, every possibly cool decision made was cut short and reversed before the series was over

PrivateXimmy

A good writer could *easily* have worked with where TLJ left off. You’re building the republic to prepare for the encroaching first order? Go from planet to planet! Learn their customs, get them on board! Fight for freedom in the skies of Corasant! The second they went back on Ben being the big bad, to make him the heel of *another* wrinkled prune, this movie was already cooked.

Adam

They're not skipping it. It's just being held off until after Clone Wars for spoiler reasons.

Adam

What fucked it more is having to follow Rian. TLJ is a decent movie. It's just a shit Star Wars one.

Adam

Sad thing is RoS got mostly fucked by having to follow TLJ, though. TLJ would've worked if it was a standalone. Not part of a series.

Sancturillore -- Élie Simard-Wallot

I agree, but like I said, JJ isn't good at making build-up, nor is he good at making pay-off and endings. His fame is literally built on him making convoluted set-ups and backing himself into a corner of his own making without being able to think of a good way to make the pay-off satisfying. He's just a mystery box without substance guy. On the other hand, Rian does make good movies, but his utter lack of care for Star Wars beyond the single movie he was making led to a disaster. It is an entertaining movie, but I don't think of it as a good star wars movie.

RedRam-Ipsen

Just remember to watch The Clone Wars movie before the series... 😆

dz1jgmeyer

Honestly, this is kinda why I had to walk away from the sequels when TLJ came out. Because there's a fundamental difference in the core raison d'etre of the story between the Original Trilogy (and, to a slightly lesser extent the prequels, because they were a bit confused) and the sequels; and while I agree with the arguments made by TLJ, I hate that they used my Fantasy Space Soap Opera characters to do it. And yes, that IS what classic Star Wars was. It was never a secret that it operated on very simple, emotional logic; when A New Hope came out, EVERY critic was saying it was "Cowboys and Indians." And the series only leant further in as it went on, I challenge you to find a genre that better describes a series that started with films holding such gems as Luke finding out Vader is his father after Vader chopped his hand off, and Luke only learning that Leia was his sister AFTER they had kissed and had tension. STAR WARS WAS THE SKYWALKER FAMILY DRAMA WRIT LARGE. OF COURSE THE CENTRAL CHARACTERS WERE ALL RELATED! (Genuinely, though: Rey being a nobody is perfectly fine. Preferable, IMO. Those previous characters being related was just perfect for Melodrama in that story.) (Also Yoda and Luke in TLJ pissed me off because Luke's entire character arc was about learning to throw aside the weapon and embrace compassion as the way forward, while all of Yoda's bits were nails on chalkboard for me.)

Silvia Dragoness

Stupidest movie in the franchise. My usual metric for the subjective quality of a movie or TV show is "Does it make my popcorn taste better?". It's a fairly low bar for me, but this one...just *doesn't.*

Jorden Powell

The Anakin vs Obi Wan fight is one of the best choreographed sword fights in media. I've watched a couple sword fanatic channels critique it. By comparison these are so bad, they look flashier yes. But the actual logistics of the fighting is poorly done if examined by professionals

fizzlefist

You right, it had a lot of solid moments. The choreography, the cinematography, and set pieces, they had a lot of good bits. But JJ completely screwed the pooch on the actual plot and character development. You just knew how it was going to be with "Somehow, Palpatine returned."

Soul

Im worried about what koma said right when you hit record

AbsurdToastling

This movie is a messy but serviceable ending to a trilogy we never got. The third act to a story that nobody actually bothered to tell. This is what happens when you start a trilogy with no plan in mind, wing it as you go, and use two separate directors who couldn't agree on a single goddamn thing about the themes or characters or plot. After JJ Abrams showed up in Episode 7 and started tinkering with some Legos, reconfiguring some old sets (Episode 4), Rian Johnson came in and built a beautiful palace off of what Abrams started with, taking risks neither Abrams nor George Lucas himself would've dare to tell a story and plant seeds the franchise never, ever would have even remotely considered before him. But the old fans, they didn't like Johnson's palace. It was different - it was *new*. They didn't want something new, or so they thought. They thought they wanted more Luke Skywalker, more of what they'd already seen. As it happens, Abrams was one of those old fans. Abrams and Johnson's boss, Walter "The Rat" Disney, got spooked at the controversy of fans actually talking about Episode 8 for being different, so they fired Johnson and smashed his beautiful Lego palace to pieces and told Abrams to go ham building whatever he wanted from the mess. What he made was this. It's very much on brand for the guy who invented the Mystery Box style of writing while espousing simultaneously he never knows himself what's in the box and the answer doesn't matter as much as keeping people talking about what could be in the box and yeah eventually it ends and the box has to open but you can figure it out there would end up creating such a disjointed and unfulfilling finale to the follow up to the most well-known franchise in cinematic history. ...Before, Marvel, I guess. Like Jesus on the cross, everybody crucified The Last Jedi for daring to be different, never pausing to hear the message of hope he espoused. They thought they knew better. They cried, complained, and Disney listened, and this is what we were inflicted with and what they earned for their trouble. They can never un-somehow Palpatine's return, and I will never get to see the conclusion to the beautiful new story Rian Johnson started writing, having faith that Abrams would have some professional respect instead of pissing all over everything Episode 8 established - including characters and relationships like Finn and Rose! - because he didn't like that Luke wasn't Space Jesus and just a human person. Rose, as a character, was very much Rian Johnson's baby. That's why she got no screentime here and why Finn and Rose's relationship was never acknowledged. J.J. Abrams was a vindictive slighted fanboy who thought Star Wars should've been something different, and instead of working with his colleague, he gleefully played along as Papa Disney told him to smash said colleague's work to rubble. Now, he's known as the guy who wrote one of the most disappointing TV show finales of all time (Lost), the guy who missed the point of and completely fucked up Star Trek, *and* the guy who killed any and all remaining good will for the Star Wars franchise. I hope Abrams is happy. I hope Disney is happy. It could've been great, my dudes. It could have been great...

Justin miner

i wish i wanted to watch these again but i just cant lol. i black out after force awakens

DRedd

I called the events that happened in the film *not* framed in the most liaded terms possible in order to make them seem objectively bad. Yes. I called Rey not being tempted by the Dark side and not having some special lineage. I called Luke being disillusioned (why the hell else would he have disappeared off the face of the galaxy). I called Kylo killing Snoke and becoming the *actual* big bad in a reversal of Luke's arc. And I called Finn spending the movie doing a Buddy Cop b-plot (I just expected it to be with Poe). Putting aside the fact that no, nothing about Hyper Space lore was changed (they have Hyper Space lanes in the first place because of the dangers of being dragged out of Hyper Space by the gravity shadow of massive objects and causing mass destruction, this was just doing that on purpose in a manuever that wouldn't have worked without the enemy giving them plenty of time to set up) who *actually* cares about Hyper Space Lore?

DRedd

@BreadLuke literally almost murdered his father in a fit of rage. This was him seeing a vision of his nephew destroying everything he had built, being tempted to stop him before he can, defeating that temptation but tragically too late and then being distraught at the consequences. The years between Jedi and Jedi let people build in their mind this perfect Luke that never existed. He was a flawed, good man and he made mistakes.

Rick Baron

Tbh people just were mad that the main actor wasn't a perfect fit for the role, but the movie itself isn't as bad as people rate it

Justin miner

I'm just curious, no hate. but how do you justify a man whose father was the evilest man in the galaxy, and he still saw good in him.... turning into a man about to kill his nephew after one bad dream....... I'm honestly curious because to me that's the dumbest shit i have ever seen. also bonus make the random planet expedition and romance with finn and rose seem like good storytelling, the floor is yours honestly curious

Wil DeYoung

Honestly, well said. Much of the same sentiment that I have towards the trilogy. Standalone they are decent but together they do not tell a coherent story.

Rick Baron

Yup Rian didn't fully understood what star wars was about so he made a serviceable sci-fi movie, it just didn't feel very starwars, and he got some characters way too wrong

Othorious

As someone who generally likes all the Sequels, I think your criticisms are very valid and I share a lot of them. I am ultimately glad you watched these movies even if you didn't necessarily vibe with all of em, and I can't wait for more Star Wars content.

Natbe

Time to watch the han solo movie

Michael

The lack of reaction for D-0 has made me immensely disappointed

Michael

Rey Skywalker is still the biggest bull in Star Wars and that says a lot after the Acolyte.

KingSuno

Ian McDiarmid has played Palpatine since Episode VI and is 80 years old

Robert Collard

I need Alicia to react to Andor. Tears of joy and despair will be shed by her each episode. I need to see her reaction to One Way Out and Rix Road

AonixGhostlyQ

She sould of said she was a palpatine at the end and accect it, personnally didnt like her call herself a skywalker

Faroth

The tvseries are masterpieces compares to the sequels Clonewars as a chronicles of wars Rebels as a dnd campaign The mandañorian as a spaghetti wester Bobba fett as a magia drama Bad batch as a war old movie Each with a unique style but all feel like starwars more than the sequels, also add to the lore a lot

Faroth

The tvseries are masterpieces compared to the sequels Clonewars as a chronicles of wars Rebels as a dnd campaign The mandalorian as a spaghetti western Bobba fett as a mafia drama Bad batch as a old worldwar/vietnam movie Each with a unique style but all feel like starwars more than the sequels, also add to the lore a lot more and actually explain stuff from the sequels, prequels and even from the og movies

Afell Tale

"Why can't the Sith be hot?" Oh Emperor, My Emperor Valkorion

Justin miner

when i watched last jedi i started using the term beautiful garbage for movies that were stunning visually and had millions of dollars behind them, but the writing and storytelling was that of a 6-year-old.

Pirate King Buggy D. Clown

the problem is RoS not following the story that came before it theres a giant gap and character regression. TLJ at least followed the flow of TFA. This was just a nostalgia grab because it has elements that weren't even in the others.

Ellerian

even just the simple act of keeping the name Palpatine could've reinforced the core message of Star Wars of redemption, that though the Emperor was like the worst guy in history, not all who were related to him had to be the same, and that at least the name could be redeemed eventually but nah she took the name of people she met like a few days ago bc nostalgia or some shit

vincent shiflett

The reason Rose got sidelined in the movie was cause the fans hated her so much for some dumb reason. The actress was getting harassed and received so many death threats she delated all her social media accounts and went into hiding.

Ellerian

everything you said is true, except The Last Jedi being different does not inherently make it good perhaps Rian Johnson could've made something cool if he had the whole trilogy and could plan accordingly, but the way it turned out, the entire sequel trilogy is riddled with issues, big and small

dz1jgmeyer

Here's my problem with this argument: you are literally describing the final hurdle to Luke's character arc, the EXACT MOMENT that completes his training and metamorphosis as "Jedi" (back when "Jedi" was actually an ideal). Luke's character arc doesn't complete with him winning a lightsaber duel, it completes when he *throws his lightsaber away* and chooses to reach out to Vader instead. Remember: Palpatine ONLY speaks to Luke without manipulative condescension, acknowledges Luke's defiance, AFTER he throws the lightsaber away. "So be it. Jedi." Luke's entire character arc was the universe repeatedly hammering into his head that violence, impulse, and aggression are self-sabotaging. He's literally playing *directly* into Palpatine's plans until he finally gets the picture. Frankly, Luke after RoTJ should've been just about the least tied-to-his-saber Jedi in history. The idea that he would walk into his nephew's bedroom with it, and ignite it, only says he didn't learn a damn thing.

Ellerian

Adam ah ok that makes sense, honestly the reveal had been so ingrained in my brain for so long that i had forgotten it wasnt just common knowledge lol it happens

Ellerian

well stated Adam, in isolation its pretty good, but as a sequel it's not all that, and as a Star Wars sequel it just fails miserably

Michael

This trilogy probably could have been really good if they let jj do the whole thing, he had a plan for the trilogy but Disney forcibly changed the ending to the first movie before it came out because they already decided Johnson was doing the second, on a complete whim I might add, so Johnson changed jj’s ending then he made the second one which I think is the worst in terms of writing, then jj got brought back but everything he set up for was gone so he just winged it and we got this. Moral of the story is just stick with one director.

Valerie.Z

17 minutes into the reaction, Alicia having to pause at "Somehow, Palpatine returned" and going "They're like, 'fuck it'" - probably not knowing that's a literal quote from JJ to Vanity Fair about his approach to making this movie.

Ellerian

Alicia really doesn't like when movies have long stretches of no dialogue, huh? Has she seen Wall-E? i wonder what she thinks of that

Wil DeYoung

I only finished this movie because Alicia did. Legit, I walked out the first time I watched it, and I'm a die-hard Star Wars fan. Just the fact that they THREY AWAY so much of what they built on is terrible writing.

vincent shiflett

I remember turning to my friend 15 minutes into the movie and saying I hate it. I loved 7 and 8 with all its faults. this movie felt so souless.

Krepymask

HOPE YOU SEE THIS ALICIA! There is a set of several animated Star Wars shorts from 2003 called “Star Wars Clone Wars”. (This is different from the CGI show) It is set between the events of episodes II and III and is generally more action focused as it was made by the same person who created Samurai Jack. It helps to bridge the gap between the movies by showing more of the war and the many Jedi that participate, it is also where people were first introduced to General Grievous before the 3rd movie, and trust me it is a WAY better first impression. I suggest seeing this before the fully CGI Clone Wars tv show. As these shorts work with the contexts and characters set up by the prequel trilogy, the CGI Clone Wars introduces many new ideas and characters not seen in these shorts. Do with this info what you will

Krepymask

Sorry if you already know this, feel free to delete if you do

Valter Fara

I like Force Awakens, I defend The Last Jedi, but this is really in my opinion the worst Star Wars movie. I can deal with the bad dialogue of the prequels because of the story and mainly episode III, this makes me not want to rewatch any of the sequel trilogy.

Raycen Winkler

While I dislike this movie and trilogy regardless, I think they genuinely could’ve made this a lot more satisfying of a conclusion if Rey died and Ben was the last Jedi. The ending they went with is just not it.

Slurp

"Somehow Palpatine returned"

GrandVizierLoki

These movies ruined star wars for a few years for me. Luckily things like Rogue One, Andor, the first 2 seasons of The Mandolorian, the Clone Wars and Rebels existed and those were actually good and got me back in.

Slurp

You keep saying people hated TLJ cause it was different, that feels like massive cope tbh

Sancturillore -- Élie Simard-Wallot

DRedd, like dz1jgmeyer said, that just goes too show that you don't understand Luke's character. It was never about Luke being without flaw and not making mistakes. It was about learning something and becoming more from it. Luke would've more likely tried to guide Ben away from the dark path than try to go kill him in his sleep. It's about the themes that are at the core of the identity of Star Wars. And like another commenter put it about the Sequels, "Each movie basically retcons the last one in this trilogy" or perhaps more precisely undoes what was accomplished before within the sequel trilogy and even what came before the sequels. We didn't need a perfect Luke, but Luke didn't have to be done this damn dirty. oh, and I care about the hyperspace lore, and so do many others. But even above that, what I truly care about more than that lore is consistency within the verse. What Rian did with that was transform most of what came before into plot holes or pure stupidity if we take what happened in TLJ hyperspace-wise in consideration. No matter how ridiculous some things can be in stories, it can work well so long as it it internally consistent. The problem is when said consistency becomes broken.

Connor Clemmons

Up next, maybe Star Wars The Clone Wars (both 2D and 3D)? The 2D version gives us a version of General Grevious before he was he coughing like he had half a lung and really got to show off his skills with a lightsaber. Just a heads up, they both are TV shows.

Malcorpse

fun trivia there are a not insignificant amount of people in the star wars fandom that ship Finn and Poe and there is a theory that Disney added new love interests for both of them in episode 9 (they couldn't keep using Rose and Finn because fans hated her) to try and sway the community away from a queer ship.

Nanogerm

lol the final order fleet can’t figure out which way is up without a comm tower

Ellerian

Alicia saying "I feel like we're retconning a little bit" (massive understatement for the sequels) and then immediately saying "last movie was great though" is some insane irony biggest "does she know" moment lmao

KuroOberon

are you doing the Solo movie too?

Ellerian

The actress for Leia, Carrie Fisher, died partway through shooting this movie, so maybe her death wasn't originally planned, at least in the way that it was done here, but who knows these movies are already majorly scuffed, at least they managed to do the send-off in a respectful and semi-satisfying manner

Anna Kyruin

One of the major reasons the last trilogy was so completely bonkers is that the leadership at Disney could not make up their mind to preserve a single story and kept caving to public criticism. They kept changing directors, changing major plot points, dropping characters etc. The reason for the worst parts of the last film is that they basically got so much crap from people who were mad their fanfic about Rey being Luke, Obi Wan, Palpatine, or Han's kid wasn't canon after the second film were so loud about it that they literally rewrote the plot of the last film to make it all about Rey being Palpatine's kid. I for one was very annoyed by this because the whole message of 8 was that anyone could be a Jedi. Then they dump all over that in the final film. I suppose we'll soon see what happens when they choose to make another trilogy.

GaimeGuy

Rian completely forgot that he was supposed to be making the middle film of a trilogy. And JJ put a bunch of crumbs in the first film of the trilogy without any ideas about what they'd turn into, if they'd turn into anything at all. Just two guys stepping all over each other and the franchise. Say what you will about George Lucas's dialogue and execution in the prequeuls - each film has a distinct flavor, and it's clear what he was trying to do. The sequel trilogy is a mess and episode 9 does its best to ruin anakin's arc and the OT in particular, though. Ugh.

Ellerian

Of all the divisive choices in the sequels that the fandom can't agree on, there's 3 things I've noticed the majority of people see eye to eye on: 1. Kylo Ren is the most consistently great part of the trilogy, between the good actor and mostly un-tampered-with character arc that's allowed to go from beginning to end without interruption. 2. The movies should've been planned in advance with ideally one director and, y'know, the original creator of the series (George Lucas) involved. The plan Disney went with of JJ Abrams doing episode 7, Rian Johnson doing 8, and the guys that made the Game Of Thrones show doing 9, was goofy as all get out, so much so that the 9th movie had to switch directors how bad Disney screwed the pooch. So Rise Of Skywalker was the result of Disney trying to perform damage control and course correction in the 3rd act of the 3rd act of a story. 3. Rose was an unneeded character who had an uninteresting storyline that made no sense in the context of the situation they were in, really just making you think "why is this happening?" whenever she's on-screen. So it's really interesting to see Alicia and Koma not only liking Rose, but being actively mad she's not on-screen. Granted, as a character, I personally did not mind her, but I was in no rush to see that romance subplot return after the Finn sacrifice fakeout and the "we win by saving what we love" meanwhile the Resistance is getting blown up in the background. So, it's always fun to see differing opinions on all this, everyone has their own unique reasons, we all dislike the sequels in our own special ways <3

Linnaeus

This movie is the closest I've ever come to walking out during a film. Only the fact that I had been brought as a present by my father kept me in my seat, and I'm afraid I looked more or less like Charles Foster Kane watching his second wife's disastrous opera debut. There are people who wholeheartedly endorse one or the other of the Disney sequel trilogy, even this one! But as I said in the discord I think one of the best analyses out there of what went wrong with these movies is So Uncivilized's "Disney's Anti-Trilogy" YouTube video. It's a bit under 30 minutes long and avoids falling into the trap of either version of the more culture war-y take on why the films were not well received. Alicia (and anyone else!), I highly recommend checking out that video when you get a chance, and I hope you'll continue to check out some of the other star wars works out there because there are some really good ones. Some other stinkers, but there are gems as well. At the same time, if you stop vibing with the franchise, better to move on to something else than let it sour you on the genre. Lots of other great sci-fi out there.

Alexander Saldivar

Out of all the movies, this is the worst one. I sat in the theater with a neutral face the entire time. They had no idea how to handle the overwhelming amount of criticism so they just undid everything the Last Jedi did. It's just glorified fanfiction and Disney had the audacity to say that they didn't want to appease so-called toxic fans when that's exactly what they tried to do by undoing everything Ryan Johnson did.

Alexander Saldivar

I still can't believe they revealed Palpatines return in a Fortnite event.

Ambrosius

will you watch the mandolorian series?

hemahemahema

Disney: “Why piss off some of the people, when you can piss off ALL of them?”

ShreddedNinja

"Horrible things have happened with this." She says while also holding the Youngling Slayer 9000 The reason they didn't continue the Rose love story is because everybody else hated it and cyberbullied the shit out of her actress.

Okoga

Now that this shit trilogy is done, going to go watch all The Old Republic cinematics to wash this shit taste out out of my mouth and go back to pretending these movies don't exist.

Lukundra

The nicest thing I can say about The Rise of Skywalker is that it’s exactly the movie Sequel Fans deserved.

Joel Sasmad

Nah. If you look closely the choreography is actually way worse than the previous movies.

Tony

There's positive things about the sequel trilogy, fight choreography are good as you said, Poe was great, the actors did fantastic with what they were given, Bens character arc was good, Finn had potential to be GREAT, but the execution of the whole thing was so poor! This trilogy had potential to be fantastic, but Disney constantly dropped the ball! I am glad you reacted to all 3 though, 1 so you could form your own opinions on it, and 2 because I did find 7 and 8 more enjoyable then I remembered, the same with AotC in the prequel series! I'd still put the sequel trilogy in 7,8 and 9 if I was ranking each individually film though.

Joel Sasmad

She definitely should have watched the Clone Wars series before the Sequels.

GingerBread

god this movie sucks ass Rey should not be a Skywalker that is the most fanfic ass bullshit I have seen and not the good kind either since I feel like I have read far better fanfics then this movie and the sequels as a whole feel like bad fanfic but that might be just a bit unfair when acolyte exists.....but I am not going to give this sequel trilogy any props since it deserves less and less the more I see of it.

Joel Sasmad

I'm glad she saw them so she can understand people's criticisms, but she definitely should have watched the Clone Wars series first.

Gekido

This will be the second time I watch this movie, the last time I nearly walked out.

The actress should never have gotten harassed for a character in a movie. No actor/actress should ever be harassed for a bad character in a movie and it's likely perpetuated by morons who blend the fiction with their reality and can't tell the difference between the 2. That being said, the character of Rose is a massive nothing burger. She kamikaze'd into Finn when that could have so easily killed them both on impact. Then she says, "we win by protecting what we love, not destroying what we hate", when that is EXACTLY what Finn was doing. He was trying to protect Rey and the entire resistance in the base from being slaughtered by taking out that impact laser at the cost of his life, a.k.a., protecting what he loves.

Vegvisir92

they really should've just done the Yuuzhan Vong war for these sequels

GT QcNumber1 Vézina

If only they would have went with the script that George Lucas original had and GAVE to disney but they didn't used it at all. Can't wait to see clone wars series and movie (important to watch) cause THIS was something great (also you have to way to watch it Release order or chronological order because some episodes in they later seasons where episodes that happened during season 1 and was concept for season but where made later instead). Rebels also after, watch Rogue one and Solo even if not many liked it. after that I would recommend Mandalorian S1 and 2, follow by Book of Boba Fett, Mandalorian S3, Andor and Kenobi and Ahsoka. They are other contents of star wars but watch these main ones first. IMO Rise of Skywalker was not the best with all those RETCONS they did, people blame on JJ direction but that would be disney's fault. They really screw the shit with it. and many of the Fan base did not help like other comments already explain. I am glad you followed your gut feeling and decided to watch it to the end and not skip it, cause that gave you the perspective of why many did not enjoyed it. To me the most insulting part from EP 8 was the story they did to luke like you said about nephew dark side kill him but Vader who did WAY worst nah redeemable lol. Even Mark Hamil was not happy with what they did with luke in EP 8 I did find the idea that anyone can become a Jedi was ok nice change from the what was canon was that people needed to be force sensitive to use the force. Anyway, can't wait for next reactions.

Tony

Facts, I was laughing knowing the last jedi retconned from the previous film

Joyo Boy

using lighting is a forbidden jedi trick, that sith mastered using unique colors, some sith use red, others like palpatine use purple blueish, and yoda returned lighting to palpatine once in episode 3 remember? Jedi can still use force lighting, but not everyone can use pure white lighting which is open minded jedi/sith technique 'kay?

eduncan442 .

The rise of Skywalker is the way it is largely due to fan backlash against last jedi. Fans were so racist to rose's actress that she left social media,Ray not being connected to any major character got retconned, bringing back Palpatine rather than letting kylo be the new big bad

Nightmareman99

Just a little heads up for when you all watch clones wars, the show is not in order so I highly recommend looking up the chronological order of episodes and watch it that way. This was largely due to the show originally intended to be an anthology of stories set during the clone wars, as the popularity of the show grew and ppl started to love the characters it was changed to a more chronological show following the characters (s3 onward for the most part).

Megidodyne

Bro, someone has to show Koma and Alicia that Turning Your Lightsaber Off video.

Tyler Harding

Yeaaaa while not perfect I liked and respected a lot of choices made in The Last Jedi... This movie actively went and made that worse for me. So many retcons and dead on the vine plot points. It hurts. But congratulations on finishing all 3 trilogies!!! 🎉

Noel

Not sure about the forbidden part, Plo Koon was a lightning user, it had this orange'ish tint to it

Erik Nilsson

I hope you watch Andor as well now that you've seen Rouge One. Really adds to his character and gives us some good new ones. Also look forward to you not recognizing Skarsgard again ;)

Nightmareman99

Gotta love how Rey can just do anything just the best way to build tension in a film having your character just be the best at everything….. I will say tho the best part in this entire film is how many references they made when the rebel fleet showed up at the end. We have famous ships everywhere from clones wars ships including the crucible (an ancient jedi training vessel) to a droid control ship from the clone wars and end The mfin Ghost from the rebels animated show. Honestly the most hype moment in this dumpster fire, also they made Darth Revan (the most bad dads Star Wars character hands down) canon in this film so I’ll give em credit for that

Destroy4Fun

So the reason that the writing was so bad is cause a lot of people hated The Last Jedi so they kinda sorta retconned stuff that happened during The Last Jedi. I actually fell asleep in the theater halfway through this movie. Some critics even said that this movie is actually good if you just don't watch or at least forgot The Last Jedi. So this movie also leads to some people hating The Last Jedi even more. I don't enjoy either and dislike the sequels the most.

Shadowsofpain

There's quite a few great moments in this movie but they are connected terribly, the overall movie was just bad. Also they didn't forget the last movie, they actively tried their hardest to bury everything it set up. It's why the first half feels so bad because it's trying to do the pacing and set up of two movies rather than one.

J-Rod

Just so you know there was no real planning going into the writing for the sequel trilogy. The first one was written by J. J. Abrams, the second one was written by Rian Johnson with the last one going back to J. J. Abrams. There was no real communication on where the movies should go so there was two writers fighting over the direction the trilogy should go in. All together it was a hot mess.

Jimmy Recinos

Glad you guys watched this, this is my second time watching this mess 😅😅 you definitely rated this lower than I thought 😅

J-Rod

YES!! Not only are the sequels done but now we're going into the Clone Wars series!!!

Martin E Melcher

The Force healing ability Rey uses feels like a massive retcon in itself. Because you'd think, if the Jedi KNEW of a healing ability like that, Snaking would of learned it to save Padme??

Faroth

The only good thing on this one was that: cannonizing the tvseries and the characters on them

Crazyone

The actress for Princess Leia, Carrie Fisher died sometime before production for The Last Jedi finished. So Leia in both this movie and the previous movie was CGI over another actor.

subete_wa

Fun fact: this is the first movie I ever remember disliking! When it came out I was still at that age where I could enjoy any movie if it was stimulating enough. This was the first movie I remember leaving the theatre from and being like, "Mom, that movie was bad."

Jessy Sanchez

Ever heard of an event called The Empire Stips back? It's real believe it or not and tickets are avaliable right now XD

Nightmareman99

Yep same here man last time I saw this film was on a cruise ship on my senior trip. I was sick as hell that day and couldn’t make it to the island so my happy ass just hung out in the food court all day that just so happened to have a theatre right under it. So it was just going back and forth between the 2 until the film ended. Honestly didn’t miss to much film was pretty shit then and still pretty shit now

Tyler Brasher

1:26:00 that is actually a lightsaber fighting style that boith Jedi and Sith do not use. Jedi consider it as dishonorable and Sith consider it cowardly. Its called Tràkata

Sheevspin

There’s still 1 more movie, Solo

QuibblesAndGitz

Tbf, Kylo was never going to work as the big bad because he had already lost twice to Rey. He needed to beat her in the second movie for that to have any hope of working in the third

The_Spud_Player

This is truly the forcehet of Finn and Poe movie rather than just write them as a couple instead.

The_Spud_Player

You forget to mention that even the actors of both characters thought they should be together and were pissed that they were written so comphet.

QuibblesAndGitz

Gotta be able to make those China dollars! It's why they shrank Finn in their over seas posters and advertisements

QuibblesAndGitz

TLJ was where I walked away from Disney Star Wars, so this was my first time seeing ROS.. Definitely feel like I made the right choice, since the only thing I missed was Andor as it came out

Yahroh

I hope you watch Solo. It was one of the better Modern star wars movie. Just came out during peak fandom hate

Lance Ivy

wiat no you love han to much to not do the solo movie

dean tetlow

I would totally second this!!! Solo is a really fun movie However... if you want to get the most out of Clone Wars, you could justify watching Clone Wars first, there's a pretty sizeable Clone Wars spoiler tucked in there

L Freya

Finished watching! I am happy you got through it, and it has really helped me see a lot of the glaring flaws I haven't paid attention to. Your rating of 3 / would have quit the movie before getting halfway through is nice to see - I'm glad when reactions aren't always positive all the time. It's more fun to watch people enjoying stuff yes, but it's nice to see a very well-grounded and thought-out negative reaction to a movie too once and a while! Really loved the journey, and thank god for you the next steps are going to get their way back to being top tier again! Shame they killed the magic off in this last movie and threw away what they did in 8, I agree, but I don't like to look at big properties like Marvel and SW and only see them for their bad and call them garbage. You can do that with any show long enough, even One Piece has some truly terrible and boring episodes - and I'm only ~100 in.

Lance Ivy

yall aint seen enough sith yet they got some baddies

Lance Ivy

you know have been told . but just so you know . the star wars movies are not about jedi or sith , or even the sky walkers , star wars in a nine move serries about a little astromech droid who watches everyone he ever loved die in frount of him , have fun

ItzNack

Most of the 3rd movie was them apologizing for the 2nd movie (which most people didnt like) thats why they changed so much

QuibblesAndGitz

Yeah, 2nd movie tried to undo everything set up in 1st movie, and 3rd movie tried to undo those rewrites of the 2nd movie.. If you ignore everything that happened it 2 it almost feels like it could have been a continual story.

QuibblesAndGitz

Yeah, they swapped directors each movie and it really shows.. Whether you liked TLJ or not, it did throw out most of the setup from TFA, so it's not surprising ROS was trying to undo all of that and basically act as both movie 2 and 3

QuibblesAndGitz

They aren't wrong.. Skipping/forgetting TLJ, the remaining movies have the same director and Do feel more connected. I never watched this movie until today, but I could at least make it through sober.. that's not something I could manage attempting to rewatch TLJ

QuibblesAndGitz

To be fair, that's what TLJ did to TFA... It's more accurate to say ROS was trying to correct the retcons and plot points TLJ did

Tyler Harding

True! But then that also speaks to what a massive mistake it was not to keep the same director all the way through and for none of the mysteries set up to seemingly not have actual answers prepared

QuibblesAndGitz

JJ TFA is setup and nostalgia with no payoff RJ TLJ is tearing down setup and pissing on nostalgia JJ ROS is trying to put the pieces back into place and wipe them down enough people aren't disgusted by it

Lance Ivy

terible things have happened with this dagger .....holding the lightsaber that has murdered dozens of specifically children

QuibblesAndGitz

I don't get where people saw any chemistry between Rose and Finn. All of that seemed like her idolizing him and pushing herself on him without consent like a toxic fan girl with no mutual interest being shown. If the genders were reversed people would have said that was demeaning and misogynistic behavior like you'd see in movies from the 60's, and it needs to be called out on anyone, so I'm glad they mostly cut her from ROS. I hate what happened to her actress IRL, and absolutely think that was toxic garbage behavior. Attacking an actor for what their character did in a movie is inexcusable.

KodeShikou

What I’ve heard from many sources is Rian tossed out JJ’s ideas for episode 8 and did his own script, and when JJ came back for 9 he basically undid (or redid) what he originally wanted (somewhat) while undoing what Rian did. So basically, two writers/directors squabbling over a toy ball about how someone else should play with it

Sebastian

its a visually pretty movie but there are so many plotholes and lackluster explenations for events and things happening. Somehow Palpatine returned is such a lazy explenation to bring him back

hemahemahema

The best thing about this video is the reveal that Alicia is getting back into Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk is how I found her channels, and after the YT fuckery her full let’s play videos for that game are all unavailable now. I know the highIight videos are still there, but I really appreciated the full hour of gameplay leading up to I Really Want to Stay at Your House coming on the radio station at the perfect moment IYKYK

KingSuno

If you like Adam Driver, Actor playing Ben Solo/Kylo Ren, he's in another movie that is a Horror/Comedy with zombies alongside Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Danny Glover, Steve Buscemi, and Selena Gomez called "The Dead Don't Die"

hemahemahema

I had no idea Jodie Comer was in this!

Vegvisir92

would've been far better than this train wreck of literally just redoing the original 3 films with a modern look

DarkRaveNight

I always defend seven and eight for these trying to do something but nine is purely a retcon of everything that they tried to do to go back to formula. Have you ever have an hour and a half the angry Joe show points out to the 50 different plot holes in this movie that fans of both the books and TV shows were mad about

Abi Baez

Loved the video, personally I grew up and love Star Wars but the last three (specially this one) weren't good. But in all I could find some things to take: in The Force Awakens how they were willing to kill a beloved and important character giving the impression that this would be a more serious story. In The Last Jedi, the colour of Anakin's and Kylo's sabers (and the visual spectacle of the Holdo Manouver) And in Rise of Skywalker the base boosted lightning from Palpatine at the end XD. You can see a pattern with that list (^_^)"

StylishJack

Still gotta do the Solo movie. Underrated movie

J-Rod

I'm sure JJ had a vision for the trilogy and its not a secret that Rian didn't like the direction JJ wanted to go in hence why he basically spent the whole of episode 8 undoing everything. But from what I've heard a lot of episode 9 was made up as they were filming. I remember seeing some of the actors stating that they where helping come up with things to add while reading whatever script they were given but I cant remember where that was.

Prince of the Saiyans

While the force lightning is from palpetine it isn’t exclusive to the sith. It is a part of the neutral force powers not exclusive to either side. It is just used more by the sith.

Jordan Brewer

Yeah I think the reason that Rose wasn't really in this movie was because Rose's character received massive hate in Episode 8 because people thought she was cringe for pushing herself onto Finn, especially because Finn had zero romantic interest in her. It was super one-sided with Rose being, like you said, an idolizing fan girl regarding Finn. So I don't get why Alicia and Klcoma think that there was any romantic growth between them. Even Alicia said Rose kissing Finn was weird in Episode 8, so I guess they just forgot how forced that was by the time they watched this movie.

Unown101

That intro is KILLING ME from the lack of context. My curiosity compels me to ask what was said!

Lance Ivy

yeah pan am and the cop are straight . idk weird choice in world with ripper dock body augmentation

Lance Ivy

i think chewy is 215

Bologna Amputation

I'm not a fan of this movie, but it does make me smile. Mostly because one of my friends misremembered Babu Frick's name and called him "Boba Fuck" and that always makes me laugh when I remember it.

DustyDraugr

Imagine Anakin finding out about force healing after all the fuckshit he did trying to find out how to save Padme LUL "your telling me i could have just done THAT?!?!

Sketchy0w0

Ray: "This Dagger has done terrible things..." *currently wielding The Younglings Slayer 9000*

Sebastian

I recommend you watch some videos that slow down the fight choreography for some of the fights. They might look good when you cant tell what's going on but it was so sad from a coordinators view
