Caitlin on her warhammer arc

Luiz Eduardo Lima Sabino

Hey alicia, unrelated to Arcane. Do you already know when youre reacting to the next MCU movies?

rmplays

It’s Sad seeing vi say don’t change but kaitlyn already did change

RF

The thing about urban warfare and insurgencies/terrorists is that you can't really win by regular old military might. Like, just taking from real world examples you just can't, It's a different ball game. Escalating that kind of conflict with militarist actions also doesn't really end the conflict. These types of situations have a hydra effect. Cait could've killed Jinx and maybe Vi could've saved the kid, but what do you think will happen to that kid after that? After seeing something like that go down with the look she gave Vi? Or all the other kids left over after every raid Piltover carries out. Fighting terrorism with pure militarist actions just makes more terrorists. It doesn't matter if you kill Jinx, you just end up making more Jinxes. The people of the underground have geniun griveness over how Piltover treats them (while Piltover went into a new gold age from the hextech gates, becoming wealther than it ever did the underground only became worse, none of that wealth or prosperity trickled down for example), some of them turn to terrorism, but combating it with pure force is pointless. It's kind of similar how punitieve justice isn't actually effective at combating crime, and why coutries that focus on rehabilitation have more success than places like the states. Continue escalation just leds to longer wars and further bloodsheed. Jinx exist because of the concils and by extation Piltover pretty much suck. Their innavility to uplift and unwilingess to help the people of underground. Unless these causes are address at their root it really doesn't matter how many Jinxes or Silcos they kill. EDIT: Bassically TLDR: Piltover can't win by just flooding the underground with enforcers and hextech weapons alone, not unless they are ready to just kill every single Undergrounder (again, see real life examples in just the last 60 years for that)

Wil DeYoung

The biggest thing, I think, is that Caitlyn DIDN'T have the shot. She might have killed the kid which was what Vi wanted to prevent. If Caitlyn hadn't been so tunnel visioned on Jinx, she might have seen Slot Arm about to blow the place.

Bigboi2damax

It's surprising how you deduced that she orchestrated the attack at the memorial, but didn't realize she was gonna pick Caitlin. It's like he said, her name has power, and she likes power.

Ky McKenna

Maybe I'm weird, but I'm fully on Vi's side when it comes to preventing cait from possibly harming or killing a child, Jinx or not.

Ebofa

It is also why one of the goals lot of terrorist groups is to escalate the conflict between their targets and non-extremist members of their community. You already talk about this, but I feel like it is worth mentioning that it is also often used as an outright tactic by some groups. To sow division between their Enemy, and the non-extremist members of their own community. Both to make their enemy waste resources on keeping an watch on them, and as a recruitment tool. Because as you said, there are many more Jinxes out there. It has been a while since I last watched Season 1, but from what I remember part of Silcos goal was to escalate the response from Piltover (Through he wanted it to be more controlled than what ended up happening). Because by making Piltover respond with force towards Zaun, he forces the non-extremists to his side. Either by them being radicalized by them and their loved ones being caught in Piltovers retaliation or because they see no other way to survive it. In this case it is furthered even more by it apparently being a Noxian ploy to escalate the conflict so that they can weaken the two parties and take control (Through this is currently just speculation based on Noxus being Noxus) Leading both sides of it into extremism as a way to divide and conquer, as well as weaken both of them.

angus Macintyre

I love these first 3 episodes AND your reaction. thank you alicia! Im a little scatter brained right now so bare with me here. first of all a thing i think you missed in the finale is that this whole thing was jinx's suicide. you can see it in the way she RELAXES when vi has her pinned down. and when savika blows the vent she says "this isnt how its supposed to go!".

angus Macintyre

Also! when those bombs do go off, that is the zaun GREY being released and redirected back up to piltover, than dyed colours by jinx's devices. I take this to mean that when jinx was supposed to die it was going to be like a giant "CONGRATS VI!" and "FUCK YOU PILTOVER."

angus Macintyre

ALSO! can we talk about how FUCKED UP it was that Caitlyn flooded zaun's streets the THE GREY like that? I feel like people give cait and vi WAY too much leash to do awful shit.

Aye Jaye

Yeah, it totally is fucked up that Cait is basically using biological warfare. That's geneva convention shit right there.

Adrian_B

Cassandra K: I made sure ventilation was built in the undercity to keep the Gray out because the people deserve to be able to breathe. Cait: Fuck that! Gonna use that toxic gas to poison the undercity air, harming countless innocents for the sole purpose of finding one person! Who cares if this rallies the Undercity against Piltover even more if it means getting Jinx am I right? Genuinely can't believe Vi of all people was okay with Cait releasing the Gray into the streets like that. Kinda like that Jinx redirected it right back into Piltover as (Intended "Final" because lets be real she fully planned to die in that fight) fuck you to topside.

Adrian_B

Also, anyone else feel like that beginning part implied that Cait straight up killed the remaining two Chembarons???? Because thats also pretty fucked up.

Jaquan Ford

them mommy issues finna hit like a truck with this Cait Ambessa thing

BakaSama

I really didn’t know what exactly to expect from this Season, beyond just a continuation of the civil unrest and Jinx storylines, but these first three episodes have blown all of it out of the water. I’m particularly interested in the Black Rose subplot and to see if I’m right it in getting the vibe that something very dangerous/bad is under the city.

Edward French

Shout out to Mr. Drunk Man for being the only real one for Vi at the end!

Edward French

Also, as an autistic human, I appreciate you doing 32:30, the noggin gets glitchy sometimes on social ques and such.

Julio Castillo

When LeBlanc and the Black Rose is involved.... you know shit's goin down. I don't think Elora was part of the Black Rose, if she was she wouldn't have been paralized the moment the Black Rose kidnapped Mel. A lot of fans suspected that Swain was the one who killed Ambessa's Son, turns out..... the actual culprit was much worse xddd. And i want to say..... by how things are developing so far..... Viktor has the best chances of becoming my favorite character of the show, just the design he had last episode with the long dark-blue robe and the enlarged cane to now use as a staff...... all the stuff involving him were cool as hell. Tho he's gonna have to be exceptionally written, because it's gonna be really hard beating my boy Silco as my favorite character.

aliciaxlife

I didn’t miss it. :) she even said I’m glad it’s you it had to be you. The finally of painting the town reflects not only the lack of safety for the people of piltover not being safe but also reflects the saying “paint the town” itself which usually refers to painting the town red with blood. But instead it was with the colour of a powder explosion or colour.

Spicoli

Cait literally shot the gun out of the kids hand from across the room, how are we worried about her missing Jinx's head. Now how many do many do you think will be dead because Jinx is on the loose still? Also, did not expect the Black Rose to be pulling up so soon into this series.

angus Macintyre

holy shit you actualy responded! nevermid! ignore me!! DON'T LOOK AT ME! IM NOT HERE

Silent Eric

You are misinterpreting the beginning. They did not kill the remaining two chembarons. Remember when they interrogated Smeech last episode. They aren't killing, they are looking for Jinx. They also are not flooding the undercity with the Grey. They are surgically using it to to drive out civilians and impair targets so they won't be caught up in the crossfire of their operations. This is still a really bad thing to do, but it isn't anything permanent, they are closing the vents after they leave an area. That's the moral justification Vi would have.

Liam C

Tbh im not sure the doubt is that Cait COULD make a clean shot, if there was one. It’s that she WOULD make the shot whether it was a safe one or not. Vi and the audience are not sure as of yet how deep her anger towards Jinx goes. Would she be willing to kill a child? Vi seems to she may be capable.

Hawk

It don't even MATTER if Cait had the shot or not, y'all. Both seasons of this show have started with a young girl mourning the death of their parent figure. Drilling Jinx in Isha's arms - in what universe would that end it? How many rounds do y'all need to see a cycle?

Liam C

Just noticed the falling petal mirroring Caits moms funeral right b4 Cait shoots the mirror. God this show is so freaking awesome

Liam C

Also the fact that powder/jinx was fully intending for this to be her last stand is heartbreaking. “Finish what is left of my family” she wants the tie btwn her and vi to be finally severed and to die. And for the painting of piltover to be the capstone.

Daimah

The problem is that after the kid was disarmed she latched onto Jinx putting her head right behind Jinx's. If Cait had taken the shot as it was the bullet would had gone through both of them. The optimal solution, as Alicia said in the reaction, would have been for Vi to get the kid out of the line of fire.

Liam C

Yes! Thank you, I definitely didnt address that at well at all. The oppression of Zaun would always lead to to a Jinx. Whether Jinx or Isha survives or neither. As long as the status quo continues so will the cycle

Liam C

For sure that is what was happening. And as HAWK said, from a narrative perspective it is meant to show the cycle of violence. It doesnt matter whether Cait had the clean shot or if Isha would have shot Vi. The cycle would have continued

Liam C

As another note. I feel the shows thoughts on the Enforcers is pretty clear. From the opening scene it establishes what the Enforcers are to the people of Zaun: faceless stormtroopers. While in Piltover they may just be the lawkeepers with goofy hats, but in Zaun they are butchers. Piltover doesnt value the lives of its working class, the council considers its members more valuable that even the civilians. Even our lovable bean Maddie(who i adore btw, i hope we see more of her) shows that she is not immune to propaganda and bias with her comment towards Vi refering to her as “one of the good ones” (side note ik this is in reference to Marcus being a traitor but the specific phrasing seems too on the nose to be accidental, especially when it is directed at a Zaunite). The portrayal of the strike team as faceless demons who use CHEMICAL WARFARE is also pretty clear, jinx even superimposes the similar sketch marks over Vi’s mask as the enforcers in the opening of the show. The cycle is damned to continue unless our characters come together. Aside i hope and trust Cait will come around eventually and our CAITVI ship can sail on.

Liam C

Silco was one of if not my fav in s1. Viktor has been peak this season ngl. Doesn’t hurt he got that robo sex-appeal lol

TheRealLoRider

I'm team Caitlyn, I trust her with the shot

Liam C

God i feel ya. I am so invested in CAITVI, this episode hurt. And yes I would never doubt Cait’s ability to make the shot, only her state of mind and desperation, she is so burdened by her choice to not “take the shot” and kill powder/jinx. She is grieving and im just glad Vi could stop her from doing something she would regret in the long term. I have faith she will eventually see that even tho the end of act 1 has her on her police state arc lol. Cait is an icon and i’ll be devastated if she fully abandons the things that made her such a mover and shaker in Piltover

Liam C

Alicia defending all the beans and calling Ambessa’s BS

DeAnthony Potts

The fact she hit Vi unintentionally the first shot tells me VI made the right call. That kid was noggin to noggin with Jinx. Cait never even confirmed she wouldn't harm the kid. She only said she had the shot on Jinx. Big Difference

Miklar Sihn

This also tells you a lot about how real Silco was being with the Chembarons. This is the air he grew up in. Air bad enough that the enemy can weaponize it.

J M

Cait's Ultimate ability can also be intercepted by an ally ingame, which I think is pretty significant.

Kyle D

It wasn't about trusting her with the shot, she was telling VI to get away from her before VI had chance to restrestrained jinx or take the girl away. VI could have handled it better but she was totally in the right.

Trystan

Not gonna lie, as much as I love the writing and Cait and Vi's relationship, the constant up and down drama is starting to get pretty annoying imo. Almost feels like a manga author just shitting out conflict just to stretch things out. I'm really glad other plot points are starting to develop, I'm super hyped about Warwick (the teaser was actual what made me watch season 1), I just hope the focus will be a lot more on the new storylines and we won't have to endure Jinx drama for another entire season.

Adrian_B

All I know is that the start showed Cait shooting her gun and immediately after showed pictures of the two barons with what looked like bullets in their pics, thats why I was getting that vibe. But yeah, still very shitty to do with the grey, they're essentially using chemical warfare on civilian populations to go after Jinx, it's still affecting people who aren't involved, and that shit isn't going to just dissapear the moment the vent closes/opens.

nick

i know it probably wont happen but seeing the Black Rose getting involved have me hyped for LeBlanc (or any other character connected with them)

Rx1867

Cait missing would have been less dangerous than her hitting. Her rifle went through a metal plate Vi was able to use as cover against Jinx's minigun. If she'd gotten a headshot, it would have killed both Jinx and the kid.

Valentine

She liked her the moment she stormed into the council room and told Salo to shut up. She said "oh, looks like I found my wolf"

Azel !!

Ngl jinx not getting killed multiple times now because of silly character plots is starting to get annoying. I get the story is 'centered' around her too but plot armor is annoying in animes for a reason.

WillGlacier

dude. She is IN LEAGUE OF LEGENDS. The fact that you expect her to die, when none of this is PRESENT DAY is insane to me

WillGlacier

It's so cool to see people actually worshipping/ talking about Janna. I completely forgot she is a wind spirit living in Piltover and Zaun

Azel !!

You do realize that this is different from the game right? And even if it wasn't, do you not see me acknowledging that she is important but her near misses with death is the part that's annoying to me?

WillGlacier

Holy shit seeing the Black Rose legit makes me think the next series has GOT TO BE in Noxus ! (and if it is. PLEASEEEE give me swain origin bro has such a cool bio! Might learn more about the pact he made with Raum)

WillGlacier

Nope. THIS is canon to the game. Legit their origin story according to Riot. And ofc she has plot armor she is not going to die no matter what (used to be non-canon, then riot changed it so that each characters origins match with Arcane, end results the same tho. All main characters will live and end up who they are in league)

Matthias

Could say the same about VI lol she's like the most unlegitimate character of the show. She shoould've lost to sevika in season 1 if the hextech gauntlet didn't pull a scenarium shield out of nowhere

Spacefrog

I can't decide if the kid is playing dress up, or if they really are Teemo in disguise.

Emaliar

the thing i loved most in this episode that mr shild boy is going out of the room with pure disgust to the war situation i feel a backstory about he was on the bridge war or somthing

Lance Ivy

today on vtuber news vtuber alica unsure about her position on domestic violence lol

nervouspirate

Ok no one call me hater, I love this show and almost everything about it is a 10/10, but the soundtrack is kinda ass right? Am I the only one? The show’s like 60% music videos and most of the songs are straight up dookie.

Verdigree

If you look closely a the opening, you may notice a number of times black roses appear :)

WillGlacier

prob not since there is a bunch of teemo stuff in the background (Like the arcade games and books) + a lot of kids in the underground are just straight up miners digging for scraps lmao (oh and also Yordles disguising themselves as humans got retconned a while ago, just fyi)

Liesmith

A little off-topic, but I love the new background. The li'l rats eating cheese look like they're watching Alicia's screen and enjoying the show along with her.

jdoggivjc

The art style change combined with the song at the beginning was so sick.

Dain Greywall

Lest the trans queen <3 god damn her character and voice is amazing.

McLovin

There was no way Caitlyn could be trusted to make that shot. Especially when she's so exhausted she was struggling to stand without leaning on something, and when their weapons were, for lack of a better term, "glitching".

Jobbe Smit

No you're not the only one. I love the show but never liked Imagine Dragons and the rest of the songs almost consistently miss the mark for me. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy the show but not a single song in these first three episodes jams with me.

Jathby Dredas

8:02 - did you seriously almost say "Spoilers."

LittleMoist

and so completes Caitlyn's descent into inarguably the title bearer of "the worst"

WillGlacier

Don't forget her gun made a hole the size of like, a pumpkin or some shit in episode 2. Even if she hit Jinx it would def have hit the kid too

Randomocity732

the only thing I don't like is the modern pop music, it rips me out of the show each time. Otherwise, I love this show

Charlie baker

it kinda is baked into arcane and league tho, unlike say blue eyed samurai where it feels outta place bad

Randomocity732

Yeah, its entirely subjective on my part, i know. I have never liked pop music, and i love the rest of the music in Arcane outside of the pop music so it just throws me off. Immersion breaking, if you will

Dynahier

She literally shot the gun out of the childs hand without hurting them a few seconds before

McLovin

Perfect justification for risking the life of a child when your weapon can freak out and glitch in reality at any second.

Dynahier

OK hot take: Caitlyn is right and Vi should have let her shoot. "But what if she missed?" She shot the gun out of the childs hand without hurting them. And additionally, Vi could have pulled the child away EASILY with her gauntlets on. And even if the child got hurt, I remind you how nonchalant Vi reacted to the death of the kid Jayce killed: "One dead kid? There’s hundreds more where he came from, thanks to Silco and thanks to people like you who stuck their heads in the dirt." KInda stuck your head in the dirt Vi

Shank Mugen

I had seen this comment before watching the show, so was expecting actually terrible, but she's quite literally being manipulated here

Mikey Cyrus

if you look at the first episode where cait shot at the zaunite monster, she hit the same spot 8 times. so she IS a perfect shot. But the fact that she shot vi in this episode means that she either missed or she shot her on purpose as a warning. Both scenarios in my eyes prove that Vi was right to stop her. She's out of her mind

slavicandsapphic

Cassandra: The people of the underground deserve to breathe Caitlynn: how bout nah

Erik Nilsson

I agree, Blue eyed samurai was a perfect example of jarring music. Arcane I'm fine with.

Ellerian

tbh the whole thing with the child, and its presence in the show, has just been goofy, just felt like an excuse to have Jinx lose the fight but still get away

Vegvisir92

if Cait had taken that shot, Isha would just become the next Jinx
