Never change. Something I think is really refreshing about Kabru, is that he is manipulative and can be incredibly ruthless when it comes to reaching his goals. But he is actually doing it for a good reason, and not just saying that he is. And that he is, at least somewhat, on the protagonists side. I just think it is nice to see a good manipulator on the side we are rooting for, for once. And if someone told me that Laois was the chosen one and the destined king, I think I would ask to speak with a manager.

I like that despite all the changes to the overall feel of the series since the start, the theme of food and eating is still as relevant as ever (albeit a bit more abstract maybe). Using phrases like "denying nurishment to the dungeon" ties it all back to the original themes of the story.
