The whole bird skewering their prey on a tree branch is a real thing in nature. Togashi probably found that out while researching and thought "huh, this would be fucked up is this was scaled to human size"

Also want to add the panel of Killua holding the M16s is even wilder in the manga when Togashi just had his simple sketch of killua holding Photorealistic guns

In the Manga we are told what happened to gyro the anime left this out completely so its not a spoiler. after being killed and eaten by the queen gyro was reborn as a ant but his vicious nature didn't allow him to forget his human memories he remained himself. He left the Queens domain as he saw himself as a King. He left and didn't encounter gon, whether this proves to be fortunate won't be known till they ultimately meet Tldr: gyro became a ant and left this arc for a later arc
