I don't think the first one will lead to anything in future. I agree that religious references can be a sticky subject. Marvel as a rule steered clear of that, at least regarding present day religions. But thinking back on it, many concepts are universal in religion. This just played around with them in the MCU. I don't know how popular these comics were, so I can't judge.
