The fans full heartedly accepted it as his name. Ever since then the makers of "My Little Pony" - "Hasbro", also accepted it as the cannon name for him.

I honestly recommend the show a lot. The first season is slowish, but it spends a lot of its time worldbuilding and setting up lore (talents, the races and their history of being divided, etc) before the world literally expands and new events happen. MLP's original plot was a political drama, and they later got permission to adapt part of that plot after the season 3 finale made the show famous.
