Watching an adult’s reaction to these movies for the first time is so much different than watching a child’s, as I did with my son back when they came out. He was only 10 years old when this one came out, and he was more terrified by Davy Jones than he was the crew, because of the tentacles on his face. Most kids I know who watched this one were also quite scared of Davy Jones. So that's probably why he wasn't made scarier looking, since a lot of kids were watching these movies. Also, my son cried all the way home after seeing this in the theaters, because nothing I said could convince him that Jack Sparrow was not in fact dead. Even showed him that Johnny Depp was cast in the next one, and he didn’t believe it. Johnny really created this character in such a way that it was so difficult not to fall in love with him, scoundrel though he might have been at times. So I am in 100% agreement with you that he is one of the best movie characters ever. Johnny really put his heart into the development of this character and all his mannerisms, which he drew off of Keith Richards. And while I have been a fan of Johnny Depp since 21 Jump Street waaaaaaaaaaay back in the day, this was by far my all-time favorite role of his. The first two films of this franchise were my favorites, personally. I really loved the chemistry between Johnny, Orlando, and Keira. They had such a great dynamic. The third film was still good, just not my favorite, but four and five I’ve only watched once each and never had any interest in watching again. Though five was an improvement on four, in my opinion, but not by much. Your reaction to Barbossa at the end was ALL of us when we first saw it, though once the shock wore off in the theater, the cheering nearly took the roof off. That’s a memory that’s stuck with me all these years. I honestly wanted to hate Barbossa in the first one, but seeing him appear like that out of nowhere at the end of the second was a “YES!” moment, for some reason that I still have yet to figure out. Also, I chuckled when you said that you were glad they brought those two pirates from the first one back, because that was exactly my thoughts too. I loved those two, even with the creepy eye that pops out. They definitely bring the comic relief in spades. Great reaction. This is one of my favorite movie franchises (at least the original three), right up there with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, and it brings back great memories revisiting them this way. Thanks again and take care!

Fun Fact: that scene where Jack fell then sung "I got a jar of dirt" was improvised by Depp, and the reaction of both the crew and Jones was real.
