JIM SCHMITZ

Dale and Rick's glaring failure to see the oncoming herd, even with binoculars, when they're only a few dozen yards away is an example of poor directing. I've seen it too many times to count. It defies common sense and detracts from the credibility of the scene. To me it seems like a lazy way to build tension. "Oh, they're right on top of us now, let's be scared" Glad you pointed it out.

I believe Rick told the girl to stay there and if he didn't come back after some time to go back the way they came, keeping the sun on her left shoulder. Also, he said he had to leave her in the hiding place because if he tried to carry her he would get tired from running before the walkers would have. I don't think there was any other decision he could've made at that moment. Can't really be mad at him like the wife said, he was the only one to go after her when she ran.

I mean Rick didn't need to lure the Walkers away that far. He could have just as easily defeated them where Sophia could still see him.
