New here but I’ve always wondered how folks who watched the Hobbit trilogy first saw LOTR. In my mind (not speaking for anyone else) that’s like comparing your average high budget summer blockbuster to actual art in film. The level of thoughtfulness and care and artistry that went into this trilogy is amazing to see! If you didn’t get a chance to watch the making of these movies (the chain mail, for example, was all made by hand. And the music, manner of speaking, and clothing/armor was all differently designed for each race and country of Middle Earth) I’d highly recommend it!

The movies don’t go too much into detail about this, though they mention it a bit with Sam being Frodo’s gardener. Sam is so loyal because his family has served Frodo’s family for years. This is why he calls him Mr. Frodo. While they are friends, it’s more of a servant master relationship. Very interesting and it’s more detailed in the books
