Zener Ally: Solstice (Patreon)

Hey Guys! Got a special treat for you- a new character for Zener in his future adventures- Solstice!

ORIGIN

Susan Lancaster grew up in a small, tight-knit community in a flyover state. She was a kind girl who loved children and dreamt of becoming a school teacher. Unbeknownst to her, however, she had been born with a unique plasma-based kinesis ability that allowed her to turn herself into a miniature star. Like Zener, who similarly had been born with great powers, Susan not only didn’t know she had this ability, she also didn’t know how to control it.

One day her powers suddenly and unexpectedly activated, and in a moment Susan’s family, her community, and all the children she had hoped to one day teach, were wiped out by the intense heat. The event also alerted two individuals to her presence: Zener and Salvatore. Salvatore traveled to the ruins of Susan’s town with the intent of killing her. Susan was so overcome with guilt and grief that she was willing to die at Salvatore’s hands, but Zener arrived in time to talk her down. He too had accidentally killed people when his powers first manifested, and so he understood how Susan felt. He convinced her to give life one more shot.

Zener and Salvatore made an agreement, If Susan could get her abilities under control then Salvatore would leave her alone. Salvatore even offered to help, providing a suit for her made by Automaton, one of Salvtore’s associates. The suit was made of nanomachines that would scatter into the air when Susan powered up and re-form on her body when she powered down. Salvatore did this mainly to prove a point: no matter how much help a person like Susan received, they would only ever be a danger to themselves and others. He added a bomb to her suit to kill her when (not if, he believed) she lost control again.

Susan took the name Solstice and began training to be a superhero. She still suffers from severe depression over what happened, and usually only fights high-level threats that few other supers can handle. Zener has taken her under his wing, hoping to help her overcome her trauma, but she remains a melancholy powerhouse, mighty enough to save the world but too sorrowful to enjoy it.
