WHAT'S UP GAMERS?!
I've been blasting Elden Ring music all month and I'm still riding the high of that FFXVI trailer so apologies if I'm feeling a little LOUD. But anyways, let's talk about Arby!
I spent pretty much the entire month working on our beloved edge-lord Omen and his animations! Overall I'd say it's been going pretty well! I think I'm about 3/5ths done as of right now, so I expect to be wrapped up animation-wise within the next couple of weeks or so.
I had some art block around the third week of May to the point where I had to stop for a bit and really evaluate what it was I wanted to achieve with certain attacks. I found my footing eventually, but it definitely set me back a little bit. As of now, however, I'm feeling a hell of a lot better about how things are going. While certain parts of this form have been tricky to deal with, in general it's been incredibly fun to animate and I honestly can't wait to get back to it after writing this.
Where I struggled with was finding a balance between the speed of him whipping his sword around, and the slow strength of using his full power to attack with more weight. Omen has a charge mechanic on his grounded attacks, so he basically has two variations for every attack he can perform on the ground (discounting abilities of course because I'm not that insane).
The art block came from trying to properly fill out this moveset without too much overlap between his basic attacks, charged attacks, and his abilities. It was tough, but I'm glad I forced myself to get creative as some of those animations have become some of my favourites in the entire game!
...I'm gonna fix the coat clipping, don't worry.
Anyways, that's pretty much it for this month! These animation months are always a little quieter, but I'll have a lot more to show off once Omen's in-game. I'm hoping to have him finished by late July, but I imagine some of his animations and mechanics will be a little unpredictable, so we'll have to see. Still, I'm excited to share it all with you when the time comes!
As always, thank you all for your undying, loving, compassionate support (and for indulging my Edgy Berserker Armor Byleth of the Abyss). It means the world to me!
Cheers,
Jordy
